Shohei Ohtani‘s next destination has dominated MLB stories for the last year, with various organizations appearing as the front runners before fading away and now it seems as though the Toronto Blue Jays are the latest to head the race.

The hitting and pitching star has been linked to various clubs such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees but now he could be set to pair up with Vlad Guererro Jr in Toronto in a scary batting line-up.
“He feels that Toronto will be able to compete for years to come,” sources tell MailSport. “And he would be a beacon for other free agents to join him to create a winning team, and he would also be able to live life out of the constant LA limelight.
“He needs a little more convincing for what many believe to be the inevitable of him joining the Dodgers, it is definitely not a guarantee.”
The news would be a sharp jerk away from what was previously reported on the grapevine, with Ohtani being said to be desiring to remain in LA, or at the very least a west coast beach.
But with his entire contractual discussion being shrouded in secrecy, who actually knows exactly what he wants? The blackout curtain around his heart’s desire has led to half a dozen organizations being tipped as the favorite to sign him since the end of the season alone.
How good is Ohtani?
Ohtani was a box office bomb as soon as he debuted in the MLB as he won American League Rookie of the Year in 2018 before claiming the American League MVP award in 2021.
In 2023, Ohtani led the league in home runs (44), on-base percentage (.412), slugging (.654), and on-base plus slugging (1.066).
As a pitcher he also produced 132 innings played, allowed 85 hits for 46 earned runs, claimed 167 strikeouts and maintained a 3.14 earned run average despite being injured for a month.
