Greg Rutherford’s fiancé has issued an update on the former Olympian’s surgery recovery after he ‘tore all of his abs’ on the morning of the Dancing On Ice final.
The long jumper, 37, missed the skating show’s final after experiencing a significant injury the morning of rehearsals but didn’t reveal what is was at the time.
In the weeks that followed, Greg opened up about injury, saying he ‘effectively gave myself a C-section’ after he tore his abs when he tried to skate through the legs of professional Colin Grafton.
One week ago, Greg underwent surgery as a result of the injury and has been recovering since.
His fiancé Susie Verrill, who Greg shares three children with, gave a glimpse into his recovery, taking to Instagram to say: ‘Since @gregrutherford is the one laid up in bed I have to do things like stand out in the rain and meet tradesmen with their deliveries.

His fiancé Susie Verrill gave a glimpse into his recovery, taking to Instagram to say: ‘Since @gregrutherford is the one laid up in bed I have to do things like stand out in the rain and meet tradesmen with their deliveries’
‘Hadn’t practised my talking-to-a-builder voice in a while so at least there’s that.’
On Tuesday, Greg shared a selfie of him heading outside for some sun amid his time at home following the ordeal.
He wrote: ‘I’m up showered and have a T-shirt on for the first time since surgery. Progress!’
Last week, Greg revealed what his ‘horrible’ Dancing On Ice injury was as he headed into hospital to have surgery.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the Olympian said he ‘effectively gave myself a C-section’ after he tore his abs when he tried to skate through the legs of professional Colin Grafton.
Greg told fans: ‘Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking “what happened?”
‘I’ve been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn’t got round to talking about it.
‘Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section.

‘So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I’ll be properly on the mend. It was very painful, pretty horrible.’
The athlete’s wife Susie was present in the video and made a joke about how she told fans his penis had snapped off who had asked had happened.
Greg then posted the video of the dangerous move which caused the nasty injury.
Susie had previously replied to a follower: ‘It really isn’t anything gory or horrifying; just very painful and a bit of a freak accident.
‘He hasn’t gone in to it because specialists have been working out how to pinpoint it/work out next steps so I think the show were keen not to say anything until they have official report back.’

When one fan joked the incident may have involved his private parts Susie replied: ‘No in fairness, it all sounded so suspicious we’re not surprised people wanted to know!’
The Olympian was set to battle it all out against Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire for the trophy.
Ryan skated to victory and was crowned Dancing On Ice’s 2024 winner alongside pro partner Amani Fancy during Sunday’s action packed live final.
