Before recently celebrating his 70th birthday, a photo of a white-haired Jackie Chan looking very frail went viral on online platforms, worrying his fans around the world.

Since the frenzy of concern sparked by the viral photo, Jackie has taken to Instagram to dispel public worry about the status of his health. He explained that his aged appearance was all for a movie role.

In his Instagram post, which featured a carousel of pictures of him from different times in his personal and professional life, Jackie opened up about turning 70.

“Every time I hear this number, my heart would stop for a second – I’m 70 years old already?” wrote the star. Switching his tone, Jackie then reflected on a saying from a close friend of his, Sammo Hung, who said “being able to grow old is a fortunate thing.”

After reiterating how fortunate he feels to grow old, especially as an actor who performs his own stunts, Jackie cleared up the confusion about the viral photo.

“It’s just a character appearance for my latest movie. The character requires me to have white hair, white beard and look old,” he revealed.

Jackie then continued his message by emphasizing his love for making movies and his gratitude for being able to continue his passion. He also thanked his fans for their well wishes and birthday messages.

Among the messages he received for his birthday, fellow actor Will Smith dedicated a birthday tribute to Jackie on his social media page. He shared throwback images of them with Will’s son, Jaden Smith, from when they worked on “The Karate Kid” together.

Jackie Chan, the revered martial artist and venerated star of the screen, recently appeared in a video on a Chinese social media platform, showing off a full head of gray hair as he approaches his 70th birthday.

The video, which quickly spread across the internet, was from a report by Sichuan Observation on Weibo and was shot during a special event in Luzhou, Sichuan.

The caption alongside the video highlighted Jackie’s appearance at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Sealing Ceremony on March 11th, with Jackie humorously comparing his age to the ancient brewing techniques of Luzhou Laojiao, saying, “Luzhou Laojiao’s brewing technique has a history of 700 years, and I am 70 years old.”
