Giovanni Pernice stripped off for his Strictly Come Dancing fanbase on BBC One on Monday night – but viewers are not convinced about his Spanish Adventure with co-star Anton Du Beke.

The pair of Strictly stalwarts are heading around Spain for a new travel series, Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures In Spain, on BBC One, with the second episode tonight (Monday, March 25).

Unfortunately, the sight of Giovanni stripping to nothing – as well as donning a drag outfit – wasn’t enough to save it from the ire of viewers who called it ‘the worst travel programme’ ever.

Italian stallion pro dancer Giovanni Pernice won Strictly Come Dancing in 2022 with Rose Ayling-Ellis, before being partnered with controversial Sherlock star Amanda Abbington before she pulled out midway through the 2023 series. Head judge Anton Du Beke has been a mainstay on the hit BBC dance show and now the pair are embarking on a trip around Spain in their new series, Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures In Spain.

The pair went to Benidorm to start with, where they hit the beach bars. Asked by Anton if he had any holiday romances, Gio replied: “I don’t think you have time to listen to all of them.”

They then took in a show at a karaoke bar, where Giovanni unleashed an unexpected treat for Anton – a striptease dressed as Freddie Mercury.

Anton told viewers: “He got me up on stage and started to titillate me with his feather duster.”

Gio added: “What happens in Benidorm stays in Benidorm. You’re welcome.”

At another stage in the slightly odd episode, Anton and Gio went to a desert near Benidorm, dressed as cowboys, and then sang a big band number.

Later in the episode, the pair went to Madrid, where they hired bikes and cycled around the Spanish capital.

Unfortunately, in the sweltering heat, they ended up very sweaty and began to complain to one another about their smell.

The pair decided to visit a laundrette – where they promptly stripped off for each other and waited for their clothes to wash.

Gio said: “I do the bed when I wake up in the morning, I can’t cook but I clean, I do the washing. I’m a very clean boy. If you walk into my flat you will see everything is in place.”

Viewers were baffled. @mimiJ9 said: “Anton & Giovanni’s adventures happen when two egos surge out of control? What the hell is going on?”

@frontbottom2 said: “Oh Christ Anton & Giovanni Jane McDonald cornered the market in travel & singing lads”

@stevewarren1968 said; “Anton and Giovanni’s thing on BBC is so bad that you can’t help but smile”

@jephsonMark said: “Anton & Giovanni in Spain is just awful. Why am I paying for this rubbish”

@sisyphusend said: “I’d like to nominate Anton and Giovanni’s Spanish journey as the worst, least informative and frankly cringe- worthy travelogue of all time.”

@sympathy_simm said; “Watching Anton and Giovanni because they’re in Madrid and I’m going soon. What the f*****hell (scuse me) is this evil evil programme, one of the worst hours of my life”

@deew04 said: “Anton & Giovanni’s adventures is as flat as an Andalusian flatbread.”

But some viewers were pleased with that they got for their TV Licence fee.

@shirleighShirlz said; “Anton & Giovanni Take Spain has given me: – A full tour of Gio’s tattoos – Gio dressed in Freddie Mercury drag – Anton & Gio singing as cowboys – A full on Gio strip tease in a launderette Best show of the year tbh”

The final episode is on next Monday, April 1 on BBC One.
