Alex Jones has admitted she suffers from ‘terrible mum guilt’ when her work interferes with her family life.

The One Show presenter, 47, and her husband, Charlie Thomson share Teddy, six, is eldest, Kit, four, and Annie, three.

She said: ‘I suffer from terrible mum guilt at times, but that’s the nature of my work. I feel massive guilt about not being able to put the kids to bed every night, which is why Charlie and I spend as much time with them as possible, doing things that they will remember.

‘Everyone has days when they’re tired and would rather do anything else than a jigsaw puzzle or build a giant hole in the sand. Charlie and I work really hard and I try to teach the children the value of things.

‘I tell them I’d love to be able to read them a story every night, but my work happens at that time, and I have to work so we can do nice things at weekends and eat the food we eat.

‘They’re too little to totally get it and it breaks my heart, but there’s no way around it.’

Alex told how she has learned not to feel guilty all the time and instead tries to focus on doing as muchn as she can with her family at the weekend.

She said: ‘You can spend a lot of time thinking about it and feeling bad, or you can think, ‘Right, I’m going to do my work to the best of my ability and then I’m going to spend the entire weekend with the family.’ All I can do is my best.’

And dealing with the demands of motherhood and balancing it with her busy work life, Alex has revealed her own little secret that she recommends to others who wish to escape for 20 minutes.

She said: ‘I’ve also been known to drive to Sainsbury’s car park, wind back the car seat, lie down and close my eyes for a while.

‘People are probably looking at me, thinking ‘What is she doing?’ but I enjoy knowing that no one is going to ask me for anything and I can lie there in relative silence for 20 minutes before I get on with my shopping. I cannot recommend it highly enough.’

Alex revealed that while she she still has other ambitions and documentaries that she would like to pursue, for now she is happy with The One Show.

‘People always ask me what I want to do next,’ she added.

‘I feel like saying, ‘What do you mean? I’m doing what I’ve always wanted to do. Why would I hanker after another job?’ Of course, I’ve still got ambitions to do other things, and I love making documentaries, but they will always be complementary to The One Show.

‘I’ll be there for as long as they’ll have me and it will always be my main job.’

Alex was the epitome of chic as she posed in a range of stylish summer dresses on the cover of Women & Home UK.

The presenter looked sensational as she posed up a storm in a bright orange coord which featured a twisted bow bralette and a ruffled high-waisted skirt.
