Denver sports fans blast ‘moronic’ decision to cut host in major radio shake-up

Denver sports radio fans are not happy after KKFN-FM announced major changes to its lineup. Many asked what happened to Darren ‘DMac’ Mckee on 104.3 The Fan after he was cut from the roster.

One of Colorado’s biggest sports radio stations has announced a major shake-up. Darren ‘DMac’ McKee, longtime co-host of the weekday afternoon sports show The Drive on 104.3 The Fan, was one of four radio personalities let go as part of the lineup changes.

What happened to Darren “DMac” McKee on 104.3 The Fan? Longtime host is out

DMac graduated from Syracuse in 1991, and has covered Colorado sports for The Fan since 2008. He is joined by former Bronco offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, former Broncos tight end Nate Jackson, and 15-year NFL veteran and Colorado Buffalo Chad Brown who are also out at 104.3 The Fan.

DMac confirmed on Twitter he is no longer with the company with a tweet.

“On to the next thing,” McKee he wrote.

“Absolutely overwhelmed. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for the messages. Thank you. Not gonna lie seeing what my son wrote is next level. It’s been quite a day. I need a little time. But hopefully back at it very soon,” McKee added.

Fans blast ‘moronic’ decision to let DMac go, call it ‘horrible move’

McKee’s tweets were met with hundreds of comments wishing him the best in his next venture.

‘Love ya my man. An absolute legend. I know the next thing will be big!,’ one fan wrote.

‘You’re a great broadcaster, one of Denver’s best, and seem like a great overall human. You will land in a much better spot, and can’t wait to follow YOUR new journey and success,’ another said.

Others said it was a mistake letting him go, calling it a ‘horrible move’ and a ‘moronic’ decision. Some even went as far as saying they were done listening to the station.

‘Dmac WAS the fan. This is wild. Love Zach and am happy for him, as well as stoked to hear Lindsey, but that is 100% a mistake,’ a Reddit user said.

’15 year, every day listener here,’ another said. ‘Extremely displeased with moves made. Mac was a tremendous part of my sports obsession and he was f****** hilarious and always entertaining, even when they stuck him with complete bores.

‘This was my last day listening to The Fan. Much like how fans should stop going to Rockies games, I’ll silently protest by no longer providing my number on the audience chart.’

‘This was also my last day with the fan after listening for 15 years. I feel like someone in my family died,’ another said.

‘Got some morons running things over there. DMac was The Drive,’ a fan commented

‘Say what you want about Dmac, this is a horrible move. He has been the best of the best and most entertaining radio host for a long time in Colorado,’ one person wrote.

How the new lineup on the Denver sports station will look

Bonneville Denver announced the new lineup on Monday on Denver sports radio station KKFN-FM 104.3 The Fan.

Replacing Bye as Brandon Stokley’s partner will be Josh Dover on the new weekday program Stokley and Josh, which will run each day from 10 am until 2 pm. Dover has spent the past seven years in Denver with Kroenke Sports and Entertainment’s Altitude 92.5 FM.

Mark Schlereth and Mike Evans will lead off each day, although their show will get an additional hour, now running each morning from 6 am until 10 am.
