iOS 17 arrived this week and everyone is obsessed with the new StandBy Mode – but how do you get the full screen digital clock? Read on to find out.
The feature turns your iPhone into a smart display while it’s charging, letting you view all kinds of information from a distance when the device is on its side.

How to get digital clock on StandBy Mode
You enable StandBy Mode by turning your iPhone onto its side while it’s charging. Then, you will see the default display – an analog clock and calendar widget.
To change this to a full-screen digital clock:
- Swipe left or right in StandBy Mode to change the theme
- Stop when you see the full-screen digital clock
- Swipe up and down on the clock to change the design
- Choose your preferred clock style
- Tap the white circle to change the clock’s color
- Press ‘Done’ to save the changes

How to customize StandBy Mode
The clock isn’t the only thing you can change. There are loads of different customization options in StandBy Mode.
If you want to use the two-widget theme, press and hold the clock or calendar and press the ‘-‘ symbol above one of them to remove it.
Then, tap the ‘+’ in the top left to add a new widget in its place. There are loads of different ones to choose from.
You can also create widget stacks that let you access multiple different widgets with up and down swipes rather than just two.
Make sure StandBy Mode is enabled
StandBy Mode should automatically be turned on when you download iOS 17. However, if it’s not, you may need to turn it on in Settings.
Open your iPhone Settings and scroll down to StandBy. Then, make sure the green toggle is in the enabled position.
“StandBy will activate when iPhone is turned on its side to show widgets, photos or clocks,” a message from Apple explains.
