She inherited her father’s musical abilities and has found fame and fortune just like he did.
But there is one rather unpleasant feature Miley Cyrus believes she also received from her father Billy Ray Cyrus.
Speaking on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, Miley, 31, jokingly said she inherited ‘narcissism’ from her father, 62.
‘I also inherited the narcissism from my father,’ the singer said amid their rumored estrangement. ‘I don’t know anything about my own siblings except for the part that I was doing. … I was moving to L.A., and that’s all I really knew.’
She also praised her mother as her ‘hero’ and, though she acknowledged both her parents helped steer her towards her successful career, said the roles they played in helping her achieve fame ‘can’t be weighed on the same scale.’

She did credit her father for providing a roadmap on how to navigate her career.
‘My father I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me,’ she explained.
‘He’s almost given me this map, and it’s a map of what to do and what not to do, and he’s guided me on both,’ she said.
‘Without my dad, I know … who I am as a person wouldn’t exist. Because my dad as a creative and like, as an artist, and the way his brain works has always made me feel safer in my own mind.’
Cyrus is the daughter of Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus. Her parents were married for 29 years and they share Miley, Braison, 30, and Noah, 24, together.
Billy Ray and Tish also share daughter Brandi, 37, and son Trace, 35, Tish’s two children from a previous relationship that he adopted. Additionally, he’s father to son Christopher Cody, 32, from a previous relationship.
Miley’s relationship with her father has been strained amid a rumored family feud that saw her snub him in her Grammys acceptance speech back in February.
She did, however, thank her mother Tish in her speech.
A source later told Us Weekly that Billy Ray ‘tried reaching out to Miley many times’ and even ‘congratulated her’ on her first-time win.
‘Miley and Billy Ray are on the outs,’ the insider said. ‘Miley’s very close with her mom and is standing by her.’
She also praised her mother as her ‘hero’ and, though she acknowledged both her parents helped steer her towards her successful career, said the roles they played in helping her achieve fame ‘can’t be weighed on the same scale.’
After Billy Ray and Tish, 57, divorced last year following nearly 30 years of marriage, the source said their five children ‘have chosen sides,’ but ‘friends are hoping the rift doesn’t last forever.’
Meanwhile, another source told People that Billy Ray’s daughter Noah Cyrus has remained ‘very loyal’ to her father.
‘She and Billy Ray have always had a really close relationship,’ the insider noted, adding: ‘Their parents’ separation was really hard, but it was also long overdue.’
The Cyrus kids have reportedly been divided over the parents’ new spouses after Billy Ray got married to Australian singer Firerose.

Tish tied the knot with Dominic Purcell in an intimate Malibu ceremony last August, with Miley as her maid of honor.
Noah and Braison were notably absent from the nuptials, fueling further speculation of a feud at the time.
In February, reports surfaced that Noah was dating Purcell, 54, when Tish ‘started pursuing him,’ and she ‘was aware’ he was with her daughter.
‘The turmoil between Noah and Tish goes far beyond [what people think],’ a source told Us Weekly. ‘Noah is very distraught over Tish stealing Dominic from her.’
Another source has since told DailyMail.com that Noah fabricated the story about dating Purcell.
‘Noah never dated Dominic and they were not together,’ said the insider. ‘She is delusional to think otherwise and is trying to create a narrative that will paint her as a victim.’
The interview comes amid rumored family drama
Now Billy Ray is divorcing Firerose after just seven months of marriage.
The singer wed his Australian wife back in October 2023 but filed for divorce in late May – per TMZ. She was his third wife – he was married to Cindy Smith from 1986 until 1991 and Tish from 1993-2022.
The divorce case notes there are no minor children between them.
TMZ has reported that the singer, 62, claimed both irreconcilable differences and ‘inappropriate marital conduct’ were the reasons behind their split.
Additionally, Cyrus is requesting an annulment, alleging the marriage was entered into fraudulently.
He said their date of separation was on May 22, 2024 in the divorce documents, which were filed last month.

In court documents obtained by E!, Cyrus says he is seeking an annulment as ‘he gave consent to marriage based on Fraud by the Wife, that had he known he would not have entered into the bonds of matrimony.’
TMZ also reports that it appears Billy wanted Firerose, 34, out of their home by May 24. He is willing to pay as much as $500 a night over the course of 10 days for her lodging costs.
Once the 10 day period has lapsed, he is willing to pay $5,000 a month for her to acquire a suitable new home in Tennessee.
Billy is prepared to make the payments over the course of 90 days or once their divorce is officially finalized, whichever happens first. The payments must be made on the first of the month.
