The Last Flight: Is Carlos Ghosn Still In Prison Or He Escaped?

Carlos Ghosn is currently free, but France has issued an arrest warrant for him. However, the business magnate has been detained previously.

Ghosn first came to public attention in November 2018, when Japanese authorities detained him as he stepped off his private jet in Tokyo. They first learned about him thirteen months later, when he fled Japan while awaiting trial.

For example, on November 19, 2018, Ghosn was detained upon arrival in Japan and charged with financial mismanagement while returning the Nissan. He was arrested four times and was imprisoned for 130 days over two terms.

On January 8, 2020, he claimed at a press conference in Beirut that the Japanese legal system was biased against him and that a corporate takeover led to his dismissal from Nissan. At that press conference, he spoke for more than two hours about his innocence.

Ghosn has long been regarded as one of the auto industry’s business titans. He was the one who brought Renault and Nissan back to life and formed the alliance that holds them together. Regardless, he eventually lost everything.

Ghosn is currently in exile in Lebanon, explaining his side of the story. He has also written several books, the most recent of which is “Broken Alliances.”

The other book, “Boundless,” is also worth reading because it begins with his daring escape, which involved packing Ghosn into a large box and flying out of Japan on a private plane.

Know Where Carlos Ghosn Is Now

According to reports, Carlos Ghosn is in Lebanon. Ghosn, the former CEO of Nissan and Renault, is a fugitive from Japanese justice.

Carlos Ghosn received a global arrest warrant from France in April 2022. Carlos infamously skipped bail in Japan and fled to Lebanon in a box, prompting the international arrest order.

As part of an investigation into alleged corporate asset misappropriation and money laundering, French prosecutors issued him an international arrest warrant. According to the prosecution, the disgraced auto tycoon spent millions of euros in Renault cash on a 120-foot boat and personal expenses via an Omani auto distributor.

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, the fugitive former auto executive stated that he expects a “fair trial” in France. Ghosn told CNBC that he believed the French justice system would treat him fairly, a clear dig at Japan.
