Man Realizes His Wife Has No Idea She Is Holding Her Baby after Giving Birth – Story of the Day

After a difficult delivery, Blake realized that his wife, Shannon, had no idea who she was or where they were, much less any memory of what had just happened. So he had a choice to make.

“Everything is going to be alright, honey. I promise,” Blake told his wife, Shannon, while driving quickly to the hospital. She was only seven months pregnant, but her water broke. Shannon had issues her entire pregnancy and this was incredibly dangerous, so Blake rushed through traffic at the fastest but safest speed possible.

They reached the hospital, and their doctor determined that Shannon should go under general anesthesia and have a C-section for safety reasons. But they still allowed Blake to sit with her and hold his baby when she was born.

They brought the baby to Shannon’s room a few hours later, and she finally regained consciousness. “My love. darling, can you hear me?” Blake asked her earnestly, rushing to hold her hand.

“Hmmm,” was the only thing Shannon could say. But she opened her eyes wide and started looking around.

Blake kissed her and began to rattle off many things. He was elated that she was up and seemed fine as the doctors said the results could’ve been devasting. “Darling, the surgery went well. You did great. The baby is fine. She’s perfect. Here.”

He got up from the chair next to the bed and went to grab the baby, who was thankfully up already. Blake brought her to Shannon’s side, and she instinctively held the tiny bundle in her arms.

She looked at the baby for a few seconds but suddenly raised confused eyes to Blake. “She is gorgeous. Is she your baby?”

“What do you mean?” Blake asked, moving closer to his girls.

“Is she your baby?” Shannon asked again. She shook her head as if she was disoriented and shocked Blake with her next words. “Who are you? Where am I? What’s going on?”

Blake frowned gently at his wife for a few seconds and realized with horror that she wasn’t joking. She honestly had no idea what was going on. She had forgotten everything. Their entire lives together. Even herself.

The doctors explained that Shannon was suffering from temporary amnesia due to the anesthesia from the surgery. The situation should get better with time, and there was technically nothing wrong with her brain. But they couldn’t say when she would finally remember everything.

After Blake took Shannon and their baby home, he had to constantly remind her who she was, where she was, and that she had a baby. He was determined to make her remember.

His parents decided to move in with them for a while to help them with everything because Shannon seemed to forget about the baby every once in a while. Blake also started working remotely full-time to be there for his wife.

His mother suggested placing her in a facility at some point, but he refused. It was his choice, and he had already decided what to do. “She’s my wife, and she’s staying right here. She’s getting better every day. I know it,” he told his mother adamantly.

Soon enough, Shannon started caring for the baby independently without having to be reminded, which Blake thought was a good sign. But he wanted to do more for her. She had to remember all their love, too, so he brought her flowers with a special card every week.

He wrote to her about their experiences in their past, and Shannon always loved reading them. However, she would forget everything soon after, although she started keeping the cards in a shoebox in their room.

But one week, he had just brought home a new bouquet, and Shannon looked delighted at the sight of them. “Darling, I love these flowers, but you do it every week. Why again? What’s the occasion? What does the card say this time?” she asked, smiling as if everything was perfect.

She had no idea that Blake had frozen in his spot. This had to mean good things. “There’s no occasion, darling. I just love you,” he replied.

“I love you, too,” Shannon reciprocated and kissed his cheek tenderly. This was the first time she had said those words since her amnesia, and they were the sweetest sound in the world.

Blake knew right then that he had made the right choice not to send her to a facility. They would get through anything together.
