Father killed in a ‘vicious and targeted’ attack in Adelaide

A man found dead inside his Adelaide CBD home was the victim of a “vicious and targeted attack”, police say.

Nathan Russell was found by a friend who became concerned after trying to contact the 46-year-old father yesterday.

Upon arrival that friend found Mr Russell dead.

Police today confirmed the death was being treated as a murder.

“We believe the assault on Nathan was a targeted attack,” Detective Inspector Brett Featherby said.

“He was subjected to a vicious attack which has unfortunately caused his death.”

Mr Russell’s unit remains a crime scene, with police confirming he had bled for some time before he was found.

Detective Inspector Featherby would not be drawn on whether drugs were involved or if the death was gang-related.

He would not confirm the cause of death and said police were investigating several avenues of inquiry.

Anyone who saw or heard anything in the area from the evening of January 25 to last night should contact police.

“The circumstances of Nathan’s death mean people will know what happened,” Detective Inspector Featherby said.

He added the crime scene was an extremely distressing one for first responders.
