Simon Jordan has warned Manchester United about the ‘INEOS curse’ after Sir Jim Ratcliffe sealed his £1.3billion deal for a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United.
An agreement is close for British billionaire Ratcliffe to assume control of the football operations side of the club, almost a year after the Glazers confirmed they were open to investment.
No documents have been signed yet in Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion deal but the end of a saga that started almost a year ago is in sight.
While many United fans are optimistic ahead of Ratcliffe’s imminent arrival at the club, talkSPORT’s Jordan has suggested otherwise.
Speaking on the radio show, Jordan said: ‘It’s really interesting to work out the idea that Jim Ratcliffe, with all due respect to his remarkable successes in business – there is the thing called the INEOS curse, about businesses in sport that he’s been involved in.

‘Whether it’s the Sky Cycling Team, whether it’s the decline in the All Blacks, whether it was Ben Ainslie and one of the worst performances in the Americas Cup, whether it’s his investment in Nice that has produced no particular outcome…
‘So, when you actually look at what he’s done in sport, every time INEOS has gone anywhere near anything, it’s actually gone the other way’.
Ratcliffe’s INEOS have embarked on a number of business ventures along the years, such as Formula One side Mercedes, the New Zealand rugby team and French side OGC Nice.
Despite having a successful start to the 2023-24 campaign, Nice have been largely underwhelming under INEOS’ reign – which began in 2019.
Jordan continued: ‘I’ve always said, this is not a daddy war bucks play. This is not some philanthropic exercise where he can’t wait to benefit Manchester United fans with this wonderful glory of a wonderful winning football team solely for their benefit.
‘When you get into these levels of wealth… there were exceptions like Roman Abramovich but this is a commercial man that has an emotional index.
‘But, by the way, he had an emotional index for Chelsea. He wanted to buy Chelsea. He had an emotional index with Barcelona. He wanted to get involved in buying Barcelona!’.

Reports have suggested that Ratcliffe is planning for a major overhaul at Old Trafford
Reports that have emerged recently have claimed that Ratcliffe is planning a major shake-up at the club, once his deal to own 25 per cent stake of the club goes through.
United are reportedly interested in appointing Crystal Palace‘s sporting director Dougie Freedman into a major role at Old Trafford.
The Palace executive has been linked with moving into a new position at Man United once Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the club is finalised.
Furthermore, Erik ten Hag will reportedly be backed with a transfer war chest after Sir Jim Ratcliffe has sealed his £1.3billion deal.
