Fears snorkeller missing off SA coast taken by shark

A damaged wetsuit has led police to believe a Victorian man who went missing while snorkelling in the waters off Port MacDonnell in South Australia was taken by a shark.

Police were alerted after the 32-year-old man from regional Victoria went missing in waters off Surfers Way in the lower south-east just before 5pm on Thursday.

A short time ago PolAir and Police Water Operations members located a damaged wetsuit that is believed to belong to the missing man. Fin flippers found last night are also believed to be his.

Police said the discovery, along with a sighting of a shark in the area yesterday afternoon, has led them to believe the man has fallen victim to an attack.

The air and sea search is now being scaled back, with the police investigation now leading to a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
