This season, TNT Sports will be the new kids on the block in the world of football, replacing BT Sports.

The creation of a new brand follows last year’s acquisition of BT Sport by Warner Brothers Discovery, who also own Eurosport, in a deal worth up to £650million.

TNT Sports have gone strong ahead of the new season with an all-female hosting team, while also keeping on the biggest pundits from BT Sports.

Sky Sports meanwhile have seen some changes over the summer with some big departures.

Mail Sport takes a look at how TNT Sport stacks up in comparison to Sky Sports, CBS, BBC and even BeIN Sports ahead of the new season.

TNT Sports

PRESENTERS: Laura Woods, Reshmin Chowdhury and Lynsey Hipgrave

Laura Woods was confirmed as the centrepiece of TNT Sports’ launch after the broadcaster confirmed their all-female line up of football presenters ahead of next season.

The former talkSPORT and Sky Sports personality will be joined by Reshmin Chowdhury and Lynsey Hipgrave as hosts for the new season – with BT Sports frontman Jake Humphrey no longer in the fold.

Jules Breach meanwhile has replaced BT Sports’ Des Kelly as touchline reporter.

TNT Sports confirmed their launch on Tuesday with a 19-strong core of presenters and pundits

PUNDITS – Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch, Joe Cole, Rachel Brown-Finnis, Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman, Joleon Lescott, Michael Owen, Paul Scholes and Robbie Savage

Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole were listed as the headline names to share their insight and opinions with TNT Sports next season.

They will be joined by a whole host of football experts who will make more sporadic appearances throughout the 2023-24 season.

The likes of Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman, Joleon Lescott, Michael Owen and Paul Scholes were often seen on European nights and games where their former clubs were involved – so it would be no surprise to see them used in a similar role this season.

Rachel Brown-Finnis and Robbie Savage were also named in TNT Sports’ launch after both previously working for BT Sports.

TNT Sports’ other big addition is Ally McCoist, who follows Woods from talkSPORT. While Darren Fletcher and Adam Summerton will continue as the broadcaster’s main commentators.

BT Sport’s coverage left viewers feeling short-changed after the Champions League final with Mario Balotelli’s appearance falling flat and a constant update of Joleon Lescott’s nerves about his former side Man City’s chances of completing the Treble.

Viewers will be hopeful that TNT Sports takes their coverage a step in the right direction.

SKY SPORTS

PRESENTERS: David Jones, Kelly Cates

David Jones continues as Sky Sports’ main presenter – a role that he has held since replacing Ed Chamberlin back in August 2016.

He mainly presents Sky Sports’ biggest live football shows Super Sunday and Monday Night Football.

Kelly Cates also hosts their coverage, predominantly seen for Sky Sports’ coverage of Friday night games as well as the late kick-off on Saturday.

PUNDITS: Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Jamie Redknapp and Micah Richards

There is little change expected in terms of the punditry team on Sky Sports with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher the main stars.

While the likes of Roy Keane, Jamie Redknapp and Micah Richards will also continue to be regularly used.

A whole host of other pundits are expected to be used with Karen Carney, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Michael Dawson often seen in the studio.

Sky is famous for its spats between pundits like Keane, Carragher and Neville however their fierce debates won’t include Graeme Souness who left Sky Sports during the final weeks of last season.

Legendary commentator Martin Tyler also left the broadcaster at the end of the campaign while Geoff Shreeves rejected a pay cut, so he too will not be part of Sky Sports’ coverage this season.

Peter Drury will become Sky Sports’ new voice of the Premier League after leaving US broadcaster NBC.

BBC SPORTS

PRESENTERS: Gary Lineker, Mark Chapman, Alex Scott, Gabby Logan, Kelly Somers

Gary Lineker continues as BBC’s main host for their Match of the Day programme this season.

The 62-year-old was made to ‘step back’ from the broadcasting corporations infamous football show after breaching the BBC’s ‘social media guidelines’ having previously compared the UK’s immigration policy to Nazi Germany.

After one show where there was no hosts, pundits or interviews after colleagues backed Lineker, he quickly returned to television and has continued as normal.

Alex Scott, who hosts Football Focus, also does hosting duties along with the likes of relief hosts Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Somers.

CBS SPORTS

PRESENTERS: Kate Abdo and Jules Breach

There’s expected to be no change to the CBS team this season who show excellent chemistry on their coverage of the Champions League.

Kate Abdo will continue to pull the strings as the lead host given her strong rapport with the main punditry team.

The same can be said for Jules Breach who also fills in on the Champions League coverage – though it’s unsure whether her new role at TNT Sports will affect her availability with CBS Sports.

PUNDITS: Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, Peter Schmeichel, Guillem Balague, Alex Scott, Freddie Ljungberg, Lianne Sanderson, Jermaine Jones, Maurice Edu and Julien Laurens.

Thierry Henry and Sky pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have an excellent rapport on CBS Sports.

Clips of their antics on the channel often go viral, exchanging jibes and jokes throughout broadcasts while also providing expert analysis.

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel and Spanish journalist Guillem Balague join in with the banter as pitchside reporters.

While the likes of Alex Scott, Lianne Sanderson, Freddie Ljungberg, Jermaine Jones, Maurice Edu and Julien Laurens also provide occasional analysis.

Clive Tyldesley is their main commentator, while the likes of Robert Green, Ray Hudson, Jim Beglin and Karen Carney have provided colour commentary.

BEIN SPORTS

PRESENTERS: Richard Keys, Andy Gray

And we’re not forgetting about BeIN Sports whose coverage is hosted by former Sky Sports employees Andy Gray and Richard Keys.

The pair were both sacked from Sky in 2011 after both made derogatory comments about female referee Sian Massey and the fitness of women to officiate at matches – for which they later apologised.

After their exit, Keys attributed the comments to a ‘misguided fun’ and ‘lads mag banter’.

He later said: ‘Prehistoric banter isn’t acceptable in the modern world. I accept that. We failed to change when the world has changed. We wholeheartedly apologise for our behaviour. It was wrong. I deserve to be battered. I can stand up and take a beating. I’m not sorry for me, I’m sorry for Sian Massey.’

Keys and Gray though have since been mainstays on BeIN Sports channels which broadcasts all 380 Premier League games per season.

Former Man City midfielder Nigel de Jong is among the regular analysts along with former Newcastle and Leeds player Didier Domi and Andy Kerr.
