SUBSTITUTION: Bournemouth 2-2 Man United

It’s bad news for Bournemouth, Justin Kluivert can’t continue.

Enes Unal comes on in his place, but you can’t help but think that’s a major blow to the Cherries.

Man United need to take the initiative now.

18:09, 74

Bournemouth 2-2 Man United

Justin Kluivert is down for Bournemouth, but it looks like it’s only cramp.

If the Dutchman is forced off that would be a huge blow to Bournemouth, they are already losing momentum as it is.

18:05, 70

SUBSTITUTIONS: Bournemouth 2-2 Man United

Andoni Iraola has decided to roll the dice.

The Bournemouth manager makes a double change with Max Aarons and Romain Faivre have come on.

Adam Smith and Dango Outtara are the unlucky players who have to make way.

18:03, 68

Bournemouth 2-2 Man United

Bournemouth are trying to get the crowd going again with their football, but all you can hear is Man United fans at the moment.

Dom Solanke fires over the bar from distance, it was never going to trouble Andre Onana.

18:00, 65

GOAL!!! Bournemouth 2-2 Man United (Fernandes 65′)

United are level!

Bruno Fernandes was never going to miss and he calmly slots the ball into the bottom right-hand corner with Neto diving the wrong way.

The Red Devils were handed a lifeline and they have taken it.

The Vitality Stadium has fallen flat.

PENALTY TO UNITED!

Surely it can’t be?

Kobbie Mainoo’s shot is deflected onto Adam Smith’s arm and the referee points to the spot.

That is very harsh, but a penalty it is.

17:58, 62

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Adam Smith is very lucky not to get booked for booting the ball away after running it out of play.

When I say boot, I really mean absolutely walloped the ball away, he got some power behind it.

17:54, 59

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

That’s a great tackle by Willy Kambwala.

The United defender manages to put the ball behind for a corner when Dom Solanke looked certain to score from inside the six-yard box.

Nothing came from the resulting set-piece, and that will do the young centre-back a world of good after earlier.

17:52, 57

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Justin Kluivert is some player, I have to say.

The Dutchman dances around three or four Man United players before his effort is blocked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

I’ve been extremely impressed by Kluivert today, I’m not sure I quite realised how good he is.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he was involved in another goal here.

17:48, 52

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has just given away a foul, but I’m not sure what for.

The full-back goes into a sliding tackle, in his typical style, and wraps his foot around the ball. It was a good tackle.

The referee doesn’t agree though, weirdly.

17:46, 50

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Bournemouth want a penalty for handball. They are never going to get it and don’t.

The ball deflected onto Harry Maguire’s hand but it was tucked into his body.

If they had given that, the world would have gone mad!

17:44, 49

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

It feels like business as usual so far.

Bournemouth once again look threatening every time they have the ball.

Man United have to find a way to turn the tide.

17:40, 46

SECOND HALF: Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Erik ten Hag has already seen enough and makes a change at half-time.

Amad Diallo, the hero against Liverpool in the FA Cup, gets his chance, he is on for Alejandro Garnacho.

Can he make a difference? Let’s find out.

BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND - APRIL 13: Manchester United players look dejected during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester United at Vitality Stadium on April 14, 2024 in Bournemouth, England.(Photo by Marc Atkins/Getty Images)

Jamie Redknapp: ‘It’s so easy for Bournemouth’

Jamie Redknapp, former Bournemouth midfielder, on Sky Sports:

It’s so easy and why wouldn’t you. Kambwala gets caught and he’s pointing and trying to organise things. If you’re not sure you’ve got to go mark him.

The ball gets played to Kluivert, cuts inside, and hits a similar shot to Solanke, ferocious into that near post and it’s so hard to stop and he’s been so dangerous, but somebody just has to go out there and pick him up.

WATCH: Solanke opens the scoring

Willy Kambwala won’t want to watch this one back.

Despite the poor defending, don’t take anything away from Dom Solanke’s finish, he arrowed it into the corner.

He is on fire this season.

‘United lucky to only be one goal behind’

Chris Wheeler, Mail Sport, at the Vitality Stadium:

United are lucky to only be one goal behind. Another puzzlingly bad display by Erik ten Hag’s side.

United ship the shots again

Manchester United never learn.

It’s been a story of their season, how many shots they have let be taken by the opposition.

Last week Liverpool had 28, today Bournemouth have already had 12 at half-time.

The Red Devils have only had five…

HALF-TIME: Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

An enthralling half has come to an end.

It’s the same old story if you’re a Manchester United fan, Erik ten Hag’s side have been extremely poor once again.

Bournemouth could easily be 4-1 up, but they haven’t taken all their chances, while Andre Onana has played well in the United net.

It’s almost like the United players don’t want it, they are so complacent.

A big team talk is needed from Ten Hag.

OFF THE BAR! Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Well, Man United nearly go into the break level as Bruno Fernandes hits the bar from distance.

That was some strike, a couple inches lower and it would have caused Neto major problems.

That’s a lot better from United.

17:22, 52

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Well, I thought the referee was about to award Bournemouth a penalty.

Milo Kerkez looks like he has been taken out by Digo Dalot, but the referee and VAR aren’t interested.

Now I’ve seen the replay, Kerkez just loses his footing…

BIG SAVE! Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Man United seem so sluggish.

Lloyd Kelly dashes quickly to the ball and gets it in front of Diogo Dalot, he simply wanted it more.

From the free-kick Justin Kluivert fires straight at Andre Onana, it was a much-needed save.

I just can’t quite believe how bad United are.

17:15, 46

NINE added minutes

No surprise here.

With all the problems the referee had and the Luis Sinisterra injury, we were bound to get a lot of stoppage time.

Can United use it to their advantage, it’s not looking like it…

17:14, 43

OFF THE BAR! Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

It’s nearly another for Bournemouth!

Milos Kerkez heads onto the bar and can’t turn in the rebound after an inch-perfect ball from Adam Smith.

Kerkez is a small man, but he leaped like a salmon!

17:11, 42

Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at the Vitality Stadium:

It’s been interesting to note how often players are slipping, particularly in the Manchester United half. You have to wonder if there’s been some groundsman skulduggery afoot. But United cannot blame him for the way they’ve been all over the place as a team. So easily for Bournemouth to create chances. Where was the defending on the unmarked Justin Kluivert for that goal? Criminal.

17:10, 39

SUBSTITUTION: Bournemouth 2-1 Man United

Andoni Iraola’s joy is short-lived as Luis Sinisterra is down and in a lot of pain.

It looks as though the winger has pulled up with a hamstring problem, and the man who was brought in to replace the injured Antoine Semenyo has to come off.

Lloyd Kelly replaces him and Milos Kerkez pushes up to left wing.

That’s a big blow!

GOAL!!! Bournemouth 2-1 Man United (Kluivert 36′)

Bournemouth are now back in front!

That is simply way too easy. Justin Kuivert ghosts in between Diogo Dalot and Willy Kambwala before being home past Andre Onana.

That’s what happens when you offer up as many opportunities as Manchester United do.

That’s the least Bournemouth deserve.

BIG CHANCE! Bournemouth 1-1 Man United

GOAL!!! Bournemouth 1-1 Man United (Fernandes 30′)

It’s not the prettiest of goals, but Erik ten Hag won’t care.

This is a prime example of why you need to take your chances, Bruno Fernandes equalises against the run of play.

Bournemouth only have themselves to blame, they make a mess of it in the area, and the ball lands to Fernandes who lashes home a ferocious volley from inside the area.

It’s out of nothing, but the scores are level.

CLOSE! Bournemouth 1-0 Man United

Once again it’s Ryan Christie having a pop at the Man United goal.

Bournemouth fly forward in numbers and Luis Sinisterra gives Diogo Dalot the slip before feeding Christie, but his effort is straight down the throat of Andre Onana.

Milos Kerkez is enjoying himself.

The left-back is marauding down the pitch and he plays a lovely one-two with Ryan Christie, as the latter clips a lovely ball through to him.

Unfortunately for the Cherries, Kerkez’s touch is poor and it goes out for a goal kick.

16:52, 22

CHANCE! Bournemouth 1-0 Man United

Bournemouth are all over Manchester United.

The Cherries smell blood and are going for the kill, this time Luis Sinisterra fires narrowly wide.

The United defence just backed off and let him go for goal. They are all over the place.

The referee is having some technology problems now, I’ve seen it all…

Marcus Rashford tries to respond instantly but fires against the side netting from a tight angle.

Milos Kerkez then does well at the other end and forces Andre Onana into a save from close range.

The goal has opened up this game!

16:45, 16

GOAL!!! Bournemouth 1-0 Man United (Solanke 16′)

Oh no, Willy Kambwala…

The Man United youngster has just had a moment to forget and has been punished for it by Dominic Solanke.

Marcos Senesi nicks the ball off Alejandro Garnacho which sets Solanke free.

The striker squares up Kambwala who then loses his balance and falls over, and Solanke fires the ball low into the bottom corner from just outside the area.

It’s poor defending, but a great finish.

Bournemouth 0-0 Man United

At first, I thought Kobbie Mainoo was clipped in the area as he clambered on the floor, but no penalty given.

It turns out he just lost his footing.

Bournemouth 0-0 Man United

Why didn’t Ryan Christie go for goal?

Christie plays a lovely give-and-go with Dominic Solanke and is in the perfect position to let fly, but he decides to keep running.

The Scot eventually fires a ball across the box before it’s clear by Harry Maguire.

It’s been a bright start from the hosts.

Bournemouth 0-0 Man United

Chris Wheeler, Mail Sport, at the Vitality Stadium:

Already clear that Solanke will try to drop onto Kambwala where possible to try and bully the youngster. Utd need to watch out for that

Bournemouth 0-0 Man United

If that shot would have gone in from Milos Kerkez, it would have been a belter.

The ball fell to the full-back outside the area and he attempts a volley that goes miles in the air before dipping wide.

Not even close.

Thankfully, it’s not long.

Andoni Iraola: ‘We have advantage of playing at home’

Andoni Iraola, Bournemouth manager, speaking to Sky Sports:

We have the advantage of playing at home, but it is going to be difficult because they are a very good team with very good players. You have to keep the concentration over 100 minutes with them because if we make a mistake, normally they score.

Dom Solanke starts after warm-up knock

Well, for a moment there were some worrying signs in the warm-up for Dom Solanke.

The Bournemouth striker looked like he had picked up a knock and was seen with the physios assessing the problem.

However, we are being told that he is still fit to start, which is a huge positive for the Cherries.

Solanke has netted 16 league goals this campaign, it would have been a huge blow if he had gotten injured.

Keep an eye on him in the early stages.

‘Opportunity to stake claim for Champions League qualification for United’

Chris Wheeler, Mail Sport, at the Vitality Stadium:

United have dropped to seventh after Newcastle’s win over Tottenham, but victory here would see Ten Hag’s side reclaim sixth spot and close the gap on Spurs, with Aston Villa away to Arsenal on Sunday.

United haven’t done themselves any favours dropping seven points in the last three games alone, but the opportunity to stake a claim for Champions League qualification is there if they can take it.

Ethan Wheatley and Habeeb Ogunneye warm up

You can just imagine how amazing these two lads feel right now.

To be selected in the senior squad for arguably the biggest football club in the world, at such a young age too, is extremely impressive.

Erik ten Hag may give them a go if things are going well.

Sun shining on south coast

Spring really is here now, and I love it.

The Vitality is looking glorious in the sun as the players warm up before the 5.30pm kick-off.

Will Man United shine like the sun today, or will Bournemouth mount another upset?

WATCH: Casemiro’s acrobatic winner last season

Wow, that’s the first thing that came to my mind.

Manchester United’s last trip to the Vitality Stadium was a pleasant one, as they ran out 1-0 winners thanks to this goal.

Going by how Casemiro has played this season though, I’m not sure he could even get himself into that position now.

Now I’ve said that, he’ll score…

Will Mount have a part to play?

Mason Mount, the man who can’t buy a start.

The former Chelsea man just can’t break into the starting 11, you just wonder when his moment would come.

Following his goal against Brentford, and some of the performances of other individuals, you’d think it wouldn’t hurt to give him a go.

Erik ten Hag obviously doesn’t agree though, so the bench it is for Mount.

I wonder what he thinks about all this?

United’s homegrown success

First of all, fair play to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have included eight players who are either academy graduates or still within the academy, in today’s squad.

United’s academy is one of the best in te world and it’s always great to see players make it to the big time.

How many of the eight will get minutes I wonder?

Mike Keegan, Mail Sport, has had a look at what options Manchester United have on the table for when Mason Greenwood returns from his loan at Getafe.

The on-loan forward has spent this season with Getafe, but will return to the club in the summer, so what could they do with him?

Cherries seek first-ever league double over United

Yes, that’s right, Bournemouth have never done the double over United.

I mean, it makes sense. Before this season they had never even won at Old Trafford.

Do we think they can get the job done? I don’t see why they couldn’t.

Although, with Antoine Semenyo out, that hurts their chances.

Man United Team news – Rashford STARTS

There is our answer, Marcus Rashford is passed fit to start.

Erik ten Hag has named an unchanged 11 from the 2-2 draw with Liverpool with Willy Kambwala impressing enough to keep his place.

As revealed, 18-year-old Ethan Wheatley is named on the bench.

Bournemouth Team News – THREE changes

Here we are then, this is the side Andoni Iraola has named to take on Manchester United.

Iraola has made three changes, with Dango Ouattara, Luis Sinisterra and Marcos Senesi all coming in.

Lloyd Kelly drops to the bench while Antoine Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier miss the match through injury.

Last Time Out: Man United 0-3 Bournemouth

Sorry Man United fans, you knew I would mention it.

The last time these two faced off was a rain-soaked day in Manchester back in December, and it’s a game that will long in the memory of the Cherries faithful.

Bournemouth went into the day having never won at Old Trafford, and oh boy did they put that record straight.

The Cherries didn’t just beat United, they made a statement, putting three goals past Erik ten Hag’s side, with Dominic Solanke, Phillip Billing, and Marcos Senesi doing the damage.

If they can perform anything like they did that day this evening, it will be a wonderful day for them.

Calm before the storm

It’s eerily quiet at the Vitality Stadium at the moment, but it won’t be for long!

Manchester United have a good record at this stadium and will be hoping to add to it this evening.

I always love covering games at this ground, when it wants to it can create a great atmosphere.

Plus, it looks great in the sun.

Teenage Wheatley set for United bench

Some early team news, and it’s going to be a special day for one teenager.

18-year-old Ethan Wheatley is set to be named on the Manchester United bench, his first time being named in a senior squad.

The striker netted an impressive hat-trick against Liverpool Under 18s in a huge 9-1 win.

Will he manage to make it onto the pitch?

United chasing first win in four

Manchester United have not picked up many points recently.

In their last three games, they have picked up just two, despite leading late in each one of them.

Erik ten Hag’s side are in desperate need of a win, otherwise, they will drift further and further away from the Champions League spots.

Bournemouth, however, will not play ball and will attempt to push United all the way today.

Remember, they beat United at Old Trafford earlier this season, so they know what it takes.

I’m expecting an extremely tight match.

Time to build for United?

I told you it wouldn’t be long until I was back.

The football keeps on coming and we finish the day with Manchester United travelling down to the south coast to take on Bournemouth.

It could turn into a big day for Manchester United who have briefly fallen behind Newcastle United into seventh after their 4-0 win earlier.

After their 2-2 draw with bitter rivals Liverpool last Sunday, can United build on the result in their push for Europe?

It won’t be easy, Bournemouth have won their last three home games, and have only lost one in their last six home and away.

I feel more goals coming, let’s hope I’m right!
