Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is not only known for his record-breaking performances on the field but also for his strong faith and mental fortitude. The seven-year veteran recently shared insights into his mental approach during an appearance at the 2024 Stronger Men’s Conference in Springfield, Missouri, where he discussed how prayer helps him stay grounded in high-pressure situations.

Butker, who holds the record for all-time field goals in a Super Bowl, including a record-setting 57-yarder in Super Bowl LVIII, emphasized the importance of focusing on what he can control and staying connected to his faith.

You get out to the field at least two hours early and start warming up… then you’re sitting on the bench for the majority of the game,” Butker recalled. “That’s a lot of time in your thoughts on the sidelines. One thing that’s really helped me is staying focused on what I can control. The mental side has really helped me have a consistent career.”

Harrison Butker is a man of faith

Butker described how prayer on the sidelines helps him detach from the ups and downs of the game and remember what truly matters to him as a husband and father.

“I’m a child of God. I need to care about what Jesus thinks of me more than anyone else. How am I as a husband, and how am I as a father? And when you think about that it really takes away a lot of the pressure that the world can bring, that that stage can bring,” the kicker stated.

His faith has been a guiding light, especially during challenging times like when he suffered an ankle injury in 2022 that sidelined him for several games. Butker saw it as a test of his faith and an opportunity to reevaluate his priorities, realizing that football should not be his idol.

Focusing on faith and family

Despite entering this year’s Super Bowl as underdogs, the Chiefs emerged victorious, securing their third title in four seasons. Butker credits his success to his faith, his team, and his determination to use his platform to glorify God.

As the Chiefs aim for a three-peat this season, Butker remains focused on his faith and his family, knowing that success on the field is just one part of his journey. With his unwavering faith and mental resilience, Butker continues to inspire both on and off the field.
