New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson and his high school coach, Butch Stockton, are now roomates. The reason for their living arrangement is enough to make a grown man cry.
Stockton revealed the story on Thursday during the Knicks broadcast. He explained how his wife, Dawn Stockton, recently died of cancer at the age of 70 after 31 years of marriage. Robinson visited her in the hospital every single day.
“He said ‘Coach, no reason to stay down here in Louisiana. You come to New York with me and enjoy yourself and get your mind back straight because you know how much you loved your wife,'” Stockton said. “It’s just been a great situation.”
Stockton coached Robinson at Chalmette High School in Louisiana and always believed he would make it to the NBA.
Mitchell Robinson is a great guy
Robinson, who confirmed Stockton will live with him for the rest of the year, is being lauded as a “great guy” on social media since the story of his new roomate went viral on Friday.
He spoke about Stockton during his postgame press conference after the Knicks defeated the Detroit Pistons at Madison Square Garden.
“It works out for the best,” Robinson said. “I help him out, he helped me.”
