Travis Head has been caught behind in the first over after swinging at a wide ball outside the off stump.

Forde was the bowler. Dream start for the West Indies.

Australia are 1-4.

Xavier Bartlett is having a debut to remember.

It’s reached the level, where it’s worth digging into the history books to work out just how good a start it is.

“It’s a dream come true, I’m just stoked to be out on the MCG playing cricket for Australia,” Bartlett told Fox Cricket.

“That first ball swung and clipped the top of off-stump – pretty amazing.”

The Queenslander’s 4-17 is the second best bowling figures by an Australian man in his first one-day international.

On top is one of the men who selected Bartlett, selector Tony Dodemaide, who claimed 5-21 against Sri Lanka in Perth in 1988.

Dodemaide was the person who told Bartlett he would be making his debut.

Bartlett said his mum, dad, uncle and grandma were at the MCG to watch his debut.

Marnus Labuschagne has taken a great running catch in the outfield to end the innings, off the bowling of Sean Abbott.

The West Indies have finished on 231 all out. It’s a pretty good total considering they were four wickets down by 10 overs.

Australia will need 232 to win when they bat this evening.

Bartlett has come back on for his last two overs and snared his fourth wicket right away with Gudakesh Motie chipping up a drive that was easily caught.

Bartlett has a good chance at five wickets but he will need to work quickly.

WI are 9-226 after 47.1 overs.

“He’s barbecued him as they call it in cricket,” Adam Gilchrist said during commentary for Fox Cricket.

Matthew Forde swung hard and scored some late runs but he has been caught in the deep off Sean Abbott’s bowling.

Abbott has battled hard without reward so that wicket was well-deserved.

WI 8-222 after 46.3 overs.

Lance Morris has finished with 0-59 from 10 overs on debut.

The tearaway was used in five different spells as Steve Smith tried to give him the best chance to bowl his fastest and then take a rest.

West Indies are 7-222 with three overs to go.

The crowd has improved noticeably as the innings has gone on and it would be fair to note that it’s just before 5pm AEDT on a Friday, so some fans will be coming in as soon as they can get out of work.

But one fan was caught on the big screen earlier sleeping in the sun across four seats in the sparsely filled third tier of the Shane Warne Stand.

The fella was woken up by a mate who tapped him on the backside, he opened his eyes, waved to the crowd and went back to sleep.

Green has trapped Romario Shepherd in front for a duck.

They went upstairs for a DRS review but he was gone.
