A pedestrian has been critically injured after being hit by a van.
The man was struck on the Hume Highway in Casula at 12.40pm and thrown 20 metres into the air.
Police said the Kia Carnival veered off the road hitting the man as he was walking with his friend on the footpath.

The pedestrian was walking on the footpath with a friend when the van struck him leaving him in a critical condition
He is believed to be in his 20s and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance.
He was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in critical condition with serious head, lower leg and pelvis injuries.
Police arrested the 38-year-old male driver who was taken to Liverpool hospital for testing.
The other pedestrian was unhurt.
Pictures taken at the scene showed the van with a large dent in the front with one of the headlights missing.
Images also showed debris including car pieces, bloodied clothing and an uprooted pole, scattered on the footpath.
An investigation is ongoing.
