How did THAT get sofa up? Incredible feat perches ‘luxury lounge’ 25 metres up Wollongong tree

A sofa perched at least 25 metres from the ground near the top of a Norfolk pine tree has baffled beachgoers.

Somehow the three-seater couch was hoisted into the mature tree at Thirroul, Wollongong, without the perpetrators being seen.

The City of Wollongong posted a video of one of its teams using a elevated platform to remove the sofa from the upper branches.

‘We know vegetation vandalism happens in our city – and we always encourage our community to report damage to trees and shrubs to us,’ the City of Wollongong wrote on its Facebook page.

‘This much loved Norfolk Pine did suffer some minor damage as a result of this action.’

The City of Wollongong urged anyone with information about how it got there to contact its customer service team or NSW Police.

Another local who noticed the airborne sofa photographed the remarkable sight and posted it to Facebook, speculating youths had been responsible.

‘How they managed it is unbelievable,’ he wrote.

Wollongong Police said while they were aware of it, they had no reports of how it happened – and said it was a matter for the council.
