Angel Reese has demonstrated time and time again her indomitable character on and off the court. In general, the LSU Tigers forward prefers to let her game do the talking, but if anyone thinks they may disrespect her or her teammates, they don’t know what they’re getting into.
Such was the case of the LA Times editorial writer, Ben Bolch, who resorted on several occasions to comparisons considered sexist in a column before the game between the Tigers and the UCLA Bruins.
In the text, Bolch assured that it was not a basketball game but a “reckoning” and urged the reader to choose sides: “Do you prefer America’s sweethearts or its dirty debutantes? Milk and cookies or Louisiana hot sauce? The coach who embraces reporters or the one who attacks them? The tender star player or the one who taunts?”
LSU head coach Kim Mulkey was the first to react, with harsh criticism in a press conference after the game against UCLA. Her complaint was so angry that the LA Times had to edit the column and publish an apology. Angel Reese got her coach’s back, and she also defended the team in her own way.
Milk and cookies or hot sauce?

Reese is a person of few words. The player usually communicates her opinions more with gestures or actions than with great speeches. The forward took to her Instagram Stories to post an eloquent response to Bolch’s words.
In one photograph, you can see milk and cookies on one side and several bottles of hot sauce on the other. Between both sides stands out a sheet of paper with the abbreviation “vs.” In the caption, Reese wrote: “We love milk & cookies.”
That wasn’t all. In a video, also on Reese’s Stories, Gary Redus, LSU assistant coach, can be seen getting in on the joke and choosing between hot sauce and cookies and milk.
What’s next for LSU
The Tigers, NCAA defending champions, beat the Bruins 78-69 and thus earned their ticket to the Elite Eight round, where they will face precisely the team they beat in last year’s final: Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes.
The game will be held on April 1 at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York, and the winner will punch their ticket to the Final Four. Whichever of the two gets their pass will have to face the winner of the Southern California-UConn match.
