Rasmus Hojlund has dismissed as ‘fake news’ the suggestion his Manchester United teammates were angry at him for giving an interview to a controversial fan channel.

Hojlund spoke to The United Stand last month, fulfilling a promise the Denmark striker made following his £72million move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Several of Hojlund’s team-mates were reported to be unhappy over his decision to be interviewed by the channel’s owner and presenter Mark Goldbridge because they have been critical of United players.

But the Denmark international has questioned the nature of the reports.

‘I haven’t been told anything, so it’s fake news,’ he told Danish outlet Tipsbladet

‘I haven’t read anything about it, but it’s definitely not true that I have been told that I can’t do an interview with one fan media or another.’

The United Stand is the club’s most watched fan channel, building up a global audience of 1.83m on YouTube and 2.3m followers on Twitter, formerly known as X, since it was launched by Goldbridge – real name Brent Di Cesare – a decade ago.

The channel also divides opinion among United’s fan base because of its hard-hitting approach and Goldbridge’s abrasive style.

United have acknowledged The United Stand’s popularity in the modern media market by occasionally engaging with them and providing some access.

Mail Sport revealed that in the aftermath of the interview, the United Stand have since received death threats warning Goldbridge that he is ‘a dead man walking’ and threatening to harm him if he turns up at Old Trafford.

Hojlund was not the first player interview they have been granted. The club are aware of the strong feelings that exist and will continue to weigh up that engagement.

Hojlund insists that his teammates were not upset by his interview

A boyhood follower of The United Stand, the Dane is said to have understood why some teammates were allegedly unhappy over the interview and did not mean to upset them.

Goldbridge, meanwhile, maintained the interview was held in good faith.

‘The bottom line is, Rasmus before he was at United, knew about who I was and The United Stand.

‘So when they make out he said: “Oh I’m really sorry I didn’t realise” it never happened. Didn’t happen.

‘And I’ll tell you why. One, because he knew about The United Stand way before this. Two, we’ve been in press conferences for years – and if these players haven’t liked it why haven’t they said something about it?

‘And three, the most important thing, was this interview was hand-in-hand with the club and the player. This interview was aware of by everyone at Man United, from top to bottom, and it took months. So if these players didn’t want it to happen they could have stopped it at any point.’
