Love Island Australia’s Cassidy McGill slammed over her review of Sydney Sweeney’s rom-com Anyone But You: ‘They’re calling me a pick-me girl’

Cassidy McGill has come under fire for her take on the hit rom-com Anyone But You. 

The Love Island Australia star, 28, took to TikTok to slam the film on Wednesday, claiming that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell had no chemistry – but quickly found herself in hot water with the film’s fans.

The former reality TV star received an avalanche of comments critiquing her take on the movie.

One follower wrote: ‘You’re trying to be controversial on purpose, it had soo many great parts, I think it was real, there was honesty, humour and great character development. Great chemistry, you can’t fake that.’

Another commented, ‘Can sense someone trying to be a little different,’ while yet another wrote ‘Whatttt I’m convinced people are just haters at this point lol. Did we even watch the same movie???’

In another video shared to Instagram that same day, McGill seemed taken aback by the furious response. 

‘I said what I said over here [Instagram] and you guys pretty much just accepted my opinions, you were like “oh damn, I hoped you’d really enjoy it, I liked it,”‘ she said, before comparing this reaction to the response on TikTok.

‘I’ve got people saying that I’m being deliberately controversial, I’ve got people calling me a pick-me girl… what the actual f***? I forgot what TikTok was like…are we unable to have differing opinions?’

A ‘pick-me girl’ is a woman who infers she is unlike (and sometimes better than) most other women, in order to gain attention, approval, or validation from men.

Cassidy finished her tirade by commenting on the two leads once more, as well as taking a dismissive jab at the story’s origins.  

‘People wouldn’t like that movie so much if it wasn’t for Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell…also did I know that the movie was based off a Shakespeare play? No. Does it make me like any more? No.’ 

It’s not the first time the blonde influencer has come under fire for her social media content.

Last year, Cassidy attracted controversy for her wardrobe choices in Milan, Italy.

The blonde was enjoying a trip around Europe and was slammed after she posted a slew of photos of herself wearing a skirt and only a bra on her chest.

The influencer captioned the snaps: ‘Milan for 40 hours in my glorified bra !!!’

One angry person mistakenly thought Cassidy went inside the cathedral in the scant ensemble and wrote: ‘Wait. She went into a church with just a bra and a skirt?’

It was later clarified she was wearing the outfit inside famous shopping mall, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
