LIVE: Arsenal vs Chelsea

C. Pulisic

5′ Goal Christian Pulisic

4′ WIDE! Maitland-Niles gets in behind Chelsea’s high line. He puts in a dangerous cross and Aubameyang heads wide at the near post – that has to go down as a very good chance.

3′ As expected, the two sides have matched each other in terms of formation. Zouma clatters into Lacazette towards the Arsenal left to give away an early free-kick.

2′ It is worth mentioning that both sides can use up to five substitutions inside the 90 minutes, with an additional sixth being allowed if the game goes to extra-time.

1′ KICK-OFF! Chelsea get the 139th FA Cup final under way! This is the latest date the final has been staged in the competition’s history, bringing down the curtain on a campaign like no other.

Both sets of players are making their way onto the pitch and kick-off is now just moments away at Wembley. The showpiece fixture will be played without any supporters in attendance for the first time ever because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chelsea are playing in their 14th FA Cup final and have won seven of the last nine. The Blues’ two defeats during that sequence came against today’s opponents Arsenal, who have triumphed in eight of their last nine FA Cup finals, including the last six in a row.

Frank Lampard matches Arsenal by fielding a 3-4-3 formation of sorts, which has been the case for Chelsea’s last three matches, including the semi-final win over Manchester United. The Blues are unchanged from their 2-0 win over Wolves last weekend, meaning Caballero is preferred to Kepa in goal. Willian has been carrying a knock and is not in the matchday squad.

Arsenal have had good success with a three-man defence and Mikel Arteta sticks with that formation today. There is one change from the 3-2 win over Watford on the final day of the Premier League season – Bellerin returns at right wing-back in place of the benched Willock. Aubameyang scored both semi-final goals and starts alongside Lacazette and Pepe.

Subs: Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, N’Golo Kante, Fikayo Tomori, Emerson Palmieri, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ross Barkley, Pedro, Andreas Christensen.

CHELSEA XI (3-4-3): Willy Caballero; Cesar Azpilicueta (c), Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger; Reece James, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Marcos Alonso; Mason Mount, Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic.

Subs: Bukayo Saka, Matt Macey, Eddie Nketiah, Sokratis, Joseph Willock, Sead Kolasinac, Matthew Smith, Lucas Torreira, Reiss Nelson.

ARSENAL XI (3-4-3): Emiliano Martinez, Rob Holding, David Luiz, Kieran Tierney; Hector Bellerin, Dani Ceballos, Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles; Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (c).

Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League – therefore securing a place in next season’s Champions League – while opponents Arsenal were 10 points worse off in eighth, so they need to win today if they are to qualify for the Europa League.

Arsenal beat holders Manchester City 2-0 in the semi-finals and are looking to win the competition for a record-extending 14th time. Chelsea saw off Manchester United 3-1 in the last round, meanwhile, and have lifted the famous cup five times in the last 13 years.

Hello and welcome to our live text coverage of the 2019-20 FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley. This is the third time these sides have met in the showpiece fixture, with Arsenal coming out on top in 2002 and 2017.
