Foden hits the bar!

So close to a second for the Englishman.

He steps over a free-kick and rattles it off the underside of the crossbar.

It stays out and Leipzig manage to clear the danger.

Haaland should score!

Huge miss!

Foden drills it across the box and it finds the big striker but he blazes over.

Not been his night at all so far.

GOAL! RB Leipzig 1-1 Man City

Leipzig level straight away!

They regain possession inside and Poulsen plays it through for Openda.

The forward does well to hold off Akanji before producing a cool finish to level the game.

Just the start to the half they were looking for.

SECOND HALF

We’re back underway. No changes.

HALF-TIME: RB Leipzig 0-1 Man City

Foden’s goal the difference.

Nine shots for City and just the one for the hosts.

Almost half-time

And the pace has gone out of the game a little.

Not much happening at either end.

Leipzig trying to get into the game

The hosts are seeing more of the ball now but there’s not much happening in the final third… for now.

Chance for Haaland!

The City striker beats the offside trap but can’t beat the keeper from a tight angle.

City well on top here and they have a deserved lead.

GOAL! Leipzig 0-1 Man City

The visitors get the lead they deserve!

Foden finishes off a lovely move, arriving late to steer Lewis’ cut back into the far corner.

It had been coming.

Foden goes close

More attacking play from City.

A mazy run from Foden as he cuts inside three defenders but the Englishman scuffs his shot with his right foot and it goes wide.

The Leipzig fans are in fine voice despite watching their side defend almost 100 per cent of the time.

Handball appeal for City

This is one way traffic.

City go forward again and there are appeals for handball after Bernardo cuts inside and fires an effort that hits Lukeba.

Nothing doing though and that is the correct decision with his hands firmly by his side.

Huge chance for City

Just the 20 passes for Leipzig in the first 14 minutes, and only 13 of these have been completed which is testament to City’s early dominance.

And they are so close to going ahead!

Bernardo feeds in Lewis who turns brilliantly inside the box but his shot is blocked.

It comes out to Foden who fires a ball across goal and Bernardo somehow scuffs an effort wide from two yards.

How has he missed that?

City dominating possession

As expected, City are having almost all of the ball here.

Lewis has had a lively start in the advanced midfield role as has linked up well with Foden and Silva so far.

Watching Guardiola’s side really is fascinating with the positions they all take up, with Walker flicking between a right sided centre back and overlapping right winger.

Foden has a shot from distance but it is blocked and comes to nothing.

Both sides working each other out

A quiet start to the game at the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig are pressing high up the pitch, with City having most of the possession so far.

As expected, Akanji is tucking into midfield alongside Rodri with Foden and Lewis slightly ahead of those two, creating a box midfield.

No chances as of yet though…

And we’re underway

Phil Foden kicks off.

Here we go…

The players are out

And kick off is moments away…

Gvardiol returns to former club

An intriguing sub plot to tonight’s clash is the return of Josko Gvardiol to his former club.

The Croatian defender played for RB Leipzig between 2020 and 2023 before his £78m to Man City in the summer.

Gvardiol – who scored against City last season – is set to feature at left back tonight.

Man City are in the house

Pep Guardiola’s side have arrived at the Red Bull Arena ahead of kick off.

Jack Grealish is back in the starting line-up after recently returning from injury.

Meanwhile, John Stones – who hasn’t featured since the Community Shield due to a hip problem – is on the bench.

How are RB Leipzig shaping up?

There’s no secret RB Leipzig lost some big players in the summer with Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai two of their stars to move to the Premier League.

However, they’ve enjoyed a decent start to the season and currently sit just three points off the top of the Bundesliga with four wins from six games.

New recruits such as Lois Openda and Xavi Simons have hit the ground running and they pose plenty of dangers to Man City tonight.

Rodri returns

Rodri is back in the starting line-up for Man City after missing their past two games due to supension.

The Spaniard was sent off after tangling with Morgan Gibbs-White during a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last month.

His three-game ban only applies to domestic games, meaning he is available tonight before serving the final match of his suspension when City travel to Arsenal on Sunday.

It is no doubt a big boost for Pep Guardiola, with his side having lost their past two games in the midfielder’s absence.
