What a save!

Could that prove to be crucial at the end of the game?

Bruno Guimaraes hits a worldie of a shot that looked certain to be curling into the top right corner of the goal.

However, Milan’s keeper Maignan produces a stunning save to deny Newcastle.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 AC Milan (Pulisic)

St James’ Park has fallen silent! Former Chelsea player Christian Pulisic is the right man in the right place as he slots in from very close range.

In a very short space of time the Magpies are now heading into the Europa League after PSG equalised against Dortmund.

Paris-Saint Germain are level

Well that was short lived! As it stands Newcastle are still set to go through, but fans may start to feel worried.

Borussia Dortmund have scored!

Things have gone from good to amazing for Newcastle. Borussia Dortmund lead PSG 1-0 in Germany.

If the Magpies can hold on, the Parisian side will need to score twice to go through.

SECOND HALF: Newcastle 1-0 AC Milan

We’re back underway. Can Eddie Howe’s side hold on?

What a goal this is.

HALF-TIME: Newcastle 1-0 AC Milan

We’re at the half-way stage of this match and Newcastle lead AC Milan 1-0.

With Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund’s game goalless, Eddie Howe’s side are currently heading through to the last-16 of the Champions League.

GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 AC Milan (Joelinton)

WHAT a goal! Anthony Gordon finds some space yet again but decides not to shoot.

He then plays it to youngster Miley who lays it off to Joelinton.

The Brazilian absolutely leathers it into the back of the net to send the Magpies 1-0 ahead.

This is exactly the start Eddie Howe’s side were after.

Another chance for Newcastle!

Joelinton – who has been finding space all game so far – has the ball on the right-hand side of the pitch and sends a cross in.

Almiron has another chance to score but he sends a header straight into Maignan’s hands.

Great chance for AC Milan

After an opening period of dominance AC Milan counter-attack but Rafael Leo spurns a great opportunity.

Warning signs early on for the Magpies.

Amazing goal-line clearance!

Surely that had to be a goal for Newcastle. Some excellent play from Kieran Trippier slots in Joelinton who gets it past Milan’s keeper.

Almiron then has a tap-in on goal and waits to let the ball come across him, but Tomori intercepts and makes a stunning goal-line clearance.

How has that not gone in?

Fabian Schar takes a dig

It has been an excellent start for Newcastle so far as AC Milan have been penned in at the back.

After several dangerous spells of possesion, centre-back Fabian Schar takes a shot from distance that just goes over the bar.

End-to-end start

There’s been a lot of energy from Newcaslte so far but little quality from either side.

Howe’s side have, however, dominated possession and they’ll be hoping to convert that into chances soon.

Nearly an own-goal!

It’s been a lively start as Newcastle’s fans have cheered every touch of the ball so far.

A skewed clearance from former Chelsea player Fikayo Tomori almost led to an own-goal. AC Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan was quick to react, however.

TEAM NEWS – AC Milan

TEAM NEWS – Newcastle

Callum Wilson returns to the starting line-up!

After a 4-1 thumping to Tottenham on the weekend, Eddie Howe has made just one change to his starting line-up.

Former Bournemouth striker Wilson replaces Alexander Isak, who looked rusty on his return from injurt against Spurs.

What do Newcastle need in order to qualify?

Newcastle’s return to the Champions League saw them rewarded with the proverbial group of death and the Magpies – sitting third – will need help to make it through to the next round.

Eddie Howe’s side must beat AC Milan when they visit St James’ Park and hope PSG are unable to win against the already qualified Borussia Dortmund.

A win for PSG will see them top the group and eliminate Newcastle regardless of their result.

Should AC Milan win and PSG lose, then the Italian side will finish second with PSG in third headed for the Europa League and Newcastle out of the tournament.

It promises to be a hectic evening!

Plenty to discuss

Not only is a huge game on the agenda tonight, but there are several other key topics surrounding Newcastle right now.

How is the lengthy injury list – which has been in double figures in recent weeks – coming on, while will the Magpies be able to strengthen in the January transfer window amid FFP restrictions?

Meanwhile, there has also been discussion about a new stadium away from St James’ Park, plus there’s that mouthwatering FA Cup game against Sunderland on the horizon.

The players have arrived!

Big week for Newcastle

However, there’s still plenty to look forward to with a crunch Champions League clash against AC Milan tonight where they have a chance to reach the knockout stages on what is their return to the competition for the first time in 20 years.
