Wolves 1-3 Liverpool – Premier League LIVE: Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are heading to the top of the table as Harvey Elliott finishes off the hosts and caps off their sublime second-half comeback

That’s 16 games in a row without defeat for the Reds now, and they fully deserved the result for that second half performance.

Whatever Klopp said at the break worked wonders, with his side coming out the traps flying in the second half.

Wolves had plenty of chances early on to get their noses in front, but were unable to add the clinical touch.

First Gakpo, then Robertson and last Elliott-via-Bueno. The goals came after a tactical switch and in the end the result is well-deserved.

Wolves will be cursing their own lax finishing, and there will surely be plenty of frustration from Gary O’Neil.

Plenty of positives to take from that first half, but a stark warning that if they’re going to beat the drop they have to sharpen up in front of goal.

And there’s the final whistle, after 103 minutes of play.

Liverpool looked down and out at half time, but what a turnaround it was.

Klopp’s changes all made an impact, with Salah providing all three assists, but it was Wolves who ultimately shot themselves in the foot after missing chance after chance in the first 45 minutes.

Liverpool, though, complete a brilliant, brilliant comeback to go top of the table!

Wolves are keeping the ball well enough now, but not really going anywhere with it as we enter the 102nd minute.

Liverpool happy to slow things down at the back once they do at last get it back.

Can’t be much left in this one.

We’ve had the eight added minutes now.

Nunez though isn’t done, and sprints up the left before teeing up Elliott, who passes on to Gravenberch.

His first touches are silky enough, but he eventually tries too much in the presence of two defenders inside the Wolves box.

No hint of a penalty.

We might go a little over those eight minutes added on after Dawson went down in the build up to Elliott’s goal.

There was a VAR check on a foul on the defender, but nothing came of it.

That third has really taken the wind out of Wolves’ sails unsurprisingly.

They had looked like pinching something at 2-1, but now they’re a little flat.

Elliott has been booked for going into the crowd in his celebration.

Salah – who has given three assists today – is taken off for Gravenberch for his first minutes in a Reds shirt.

It’s not the prettiest goal, but he won’t care.

Nunez holds the ball up brilliantly before laying it off for Salah.

Salah slows it down before rolling it into Elliott’s path on the edge of the box, and he strikes it at Bueno, off whom it deflects into the goal.

That one might go down as an own goal – one for the dubious goals committee…

Hearing that there could be as many as eight added minutes.

This one is far from over.

Bueno holds up his man before sending a great ball in towards the back stick, but Robertson gets a head to it and onto Doherty to win the goal kick.

He celebrated that one more than his goal, did the Scot.

And it’s almost three!

Salah crosses from the right after taking it from Szoboszlai on the break.

Diaz charges onto it, it’s a bit behind him, but he looks to shoot towards the right-hand post but can’t quite get it past Sa.

He does win a corner though for his efforts, but this time Wolves can clear well.

Sa sends a goal kick up the field after claiming a corner, but Liverpool just come straight back at Wolves.

Salah sends the ball in from the right to Robertson, and the man celebrating his 200th game finishes like a verteran striker sliding it past Sa to give Liverpool the lead!

Wolves had this one for the taking, but now they’re up against it – can they get something out of this one?

All considered, a very good debut for young Quansah, who gets a massive handshake from his manager for his efforts.

Well deserved.

There was a hint of a shirt pull off the ball on Neto as he ran clear, but it wasn’t picked up by the referee.

Liverpool are looking skittish now, and Quansah keeps getting down and getting back up again as he struggles with cramp.

Klopp is absolutely fuming on the touchline that his player hasn’t been able to get treatment on the pitch, and now Konate comes on for him.

A rare wolves attack in this second half, and Quansah does really well up against Silva to head clear under pressure.

City loanee Doyle has been bright already, quick to get himself involved and he looks sharp on the ball.

It feels like Wolves are coming to life a little after the injection of energy from the subs.

Big fan call for handball after Semedo shoots from the edge of the box into Matip, but nothing given by the referee.

Another double change for Wolves, with Lemina and Belleagrde coming off for Doyle and Traore.

Bellegarde in paritcular gets a big roar – they might have found a new favourite round these parts after today’s performance.

Very, very speculative effort from Szoboszlai on the edge of the D.

He watches it all the way onto his boot, but it flies well wide of the mark.

Klopp is pleased with the intent, though, and applauds from the dugout.

The crowd are very unhappy after a foul gets called while Lemina is almost free to run clear.

It’s been called because of contact on Szoboszlai but it looks like the Wolves man has got the ball, but Lemina had a clear run of a good 20 yards before the next defender, with his side to get well up the pitch.

He’s let a lot go today, has Michael Oliver, but not that one.

It’s been a game of two halves so far, if you’ll pardon the cliche.

Wolves were reminiscent of Liverpool in their pressing style in the first 45 minutes, but they’ve given Liverpool so much of the ball in the second, and that’s why they’re level.

Nunez almost slaloms his way through the middle to latch onto a Salah pass, but he can’t get it past Sa in goal, who flies off his line.

He’s got to do better with it there, he was only a few yards out but couldn’t find the target.

Wolves have a free kick out on the edge of the box after a handball from Bueno.

Szoboszlai and Robertson over it but it’s the Hungarian who pulls it back to Elliott, but his shot is blocked by Neto.

Lemina then holds off Diaz and Wolves look to play themselves out of trouble before a long ball is well cut out by Matip.

Ait-Nouri can’t continue, and off he comes for Bueno.

The fans are up on their feet for the left back as he leave the pitch.

Gomez flashes a brilliant ball in from the right that Dawson misses completely, but after darting into the box Nunez seems to switch off.

The ball fell exactly where he woud have been if he had taken a few more steps and he looks up at the sky as he realises he would have had a gimme there.

Ait-Nouri is down calling for a bit of treatment now – he’s certainly put a shift in for the hosts.

Wolves are looking a bit more like themselves now by pressing higher up the pitch.

But Liverpool are getting into their own rhythm now, and are finding overlaps in wide areas that just weren’t available in the first half.

Bellegarde – who can do no wrong at the moment – brings down a very high clearance from Alisson on his chest exceptionally, as Wolves look to get a few more touches on the ball and build up some steam again.

On come those two – Doherty for Hwang at right wing and Silva on for Cunha.

Three for Liverpool, but looks like we’re going to get two from the hosts in response.

Doherty and Silva are getting ready to come on as O’Neil looks to get his side back on top here.

And it’s his last involvement in the game, with Gakpo hooked for Elliott and Jota taken off for Nunez.

He’s hardly had a kick all game, but he’s on hand to tap in from a yard out after Salah fires it across goal.

Jota does well to feed Salah in the box amid a melee of bodies, but it’s Gakpo’s touch that counts!

Looks like two more changes for Klopp now, with Elliot and Nunez getting ready in the dugout.

Only eight minutes into the second half and we could be three changes down for the visitors.

Wolves a lot deeper when not in possession, probably trying to work out the tactical change from Liverpool.

Jones sends Hwang with a lovely drop of the shoulder on the edge of the box, but he’s unable to get away and is shrugged off the ball.

Diaz gets clear out on the left, but Semedo slides in brilliantly to deny the cross and get a goal kick for his side.

Wolves just standing off Liverpool a bit more than they were in the first half.

But Bellegarde certainly isn’t changing his approach, holding off a number of defenders before releasing Cunha.

Cunha takes on Jota and Gomez before crossing into the middle, but can’t find Hwang.

Well it does look like Gakpo is dropping into attacking midfield for Liverpool after that change in a 4-1-4-1 with Jones up there with him.

And the Reds almost get an immediate euqaliser!

Hwang forgets to track Robertson, who crosses straight into the middle for Diaz to run onto, but it sneaks round the post.

Good start from Liverpool.

Here we go for the second half then!

Well Carragher was close.

Mac Allister is coming off for Diaz.

Unclear if it’s tactical or an injury – but Mac Allister is sitting very low in his seat looking pretty sheepish.

Liverpool are already out on the pitch, but Wolves are happy to let them wait as they linger in the tunnel.

Carragher has seen enough – he wants three changes at half-time.

Maybe a bit harsh on Jota, but Gakpo and Mac Allister have certainly struggled.

Well what a game we have on our hands!

Wolves erupted out the blocks and Liverpool just couldn’t handle it.

Hwang got the goal after seven minutes of action after some fantastic work from Neto out on the left and Liverpool struggled to come up with a response.

Ait-Nouri and Semedo were diligent at both ends of the pitch for Wolves at full back, with the latter putting in a number of dangerous crosses throughout the half.

But the stars of the show were Neto and Bellegarde, who combined and put together move after positive move down the left and through the middle, and Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Gomez struggled to contain them.

Liverpool began to make a few chances of their own, and really should have equalised at the end of the half after Sa mistimed a punch.

However, the biggest wasted opportunity came from Cunha, who had a clear header from six yards out to simply nod home after an unbelievable piece of skill and a cross from Neto, but somehow misread the ball and thigh-ed it to Alisson.

Wolves go in 1-0 at the break, but it should really be 2-1.

Don’t go anywhere – this is a real cracker we’ve got at Molineux.

There goes the whistle and gives us all a chance to breathe for the first time in 45 minutes.

What a half of football – more of the same please!

Best chance of the half for Liverpool.

Jota and Robertson combine out on the left and Sa rushes off his line to punch clear but gets it horribly wrong.

it comes out to Salah and Dawson throws himself in front of it before Szoboszlai has an attempt that is well stopped by Sa,

Wolves are straight down the other end, though, but Cunha squanders a three-on-two by going himself and missing the target by a mile.

Liverpool look flustered at the back after Neto somehow keeps a ball in play on the left on the slide.

Gomez has been all at sea at the back up against Neto, and the it doesn’t help that the winger is having one of the game’s of his life.

Liverpool eventually get the ball clear and build an attack through Salah and Gomez on the right.

The defender eventually swings a cross in for Gakpo, but the header is just a little too loopy and flies over.

Bellegarde and Neto combine for what feels like the 20th time already on the counter, with the Portugal winger flying onto it out on the left and finding the midfielder once again on the edge of the box.

It’s a poor first touch, and he goes for the shot but Szoboszlai does really well to block.

Wolves finishing this half as they started the first so it seems.

Jota does well again – he’s warming into this one – and puts a ball in towards the penalty spot where Gakpo is waiting.

He’s only had about eight touches so far, and his ninth is the worst of the lot.

He goes to place it into the bottom corner, but gets it horribly wrong.

A difficult finish to attempt, to be fair.

WOW how is it not 2-0.

Neto does absolutely brilliantly to nutmeg Gomez and trevola a cross into the middle of the box for an unmarked Cunha.

But the Brazilian jumps even though the ball is coming in at head height, and manages to miss the flight of it completely, allowing it to crash into his thigh and into Alisson’s hands.

He had nobody around him and was six yards out – just head it! Impossible to miss.

Well, clearly not.

O’Neil is fuming – he knows that 1-0 up is not a safe result against this Liverpool side

Great work from Jota as he wriggles through three or four challenges before Gomes puts in a crunching tackle that yields a bigger cheer than Hwang’s goal did.

They liked that one.

Viciously whipped in for Dawson, but he can’t get it on target.

He absolutely stormed onto that one, and clatters into the post for his troubles.

Salah is quickly on his bike to take down a long ball, but Sa clears up the danger.

Another three-on-two with Bellegarde and Neto yields a corner.

Bellegarde again running through the midfield with so little pressure on him.

Corner to Liverpool now, after Jota actually does really ell out on the left after a slide rule pass in behind the defence.

He flashes a delicious ball in but Gakpo is nowhere to be seen.

Ait-Nouri clipped it behind for the corner, which Dawson clears for Neto, who is on the charge, but Szoboszlai busts several guts to get all the way back and help out inside his box.

End to end stuff now

Szoboszlai clips it in towards the right hand side of the box, but the defence clear their lines with ease.

Ait-Nouri again in there making a nuisance of himself – he’s been brilliant so far today, especially quelling the threat of Salah.

Gomez gets a cross in with little conviction – Liverpool look a little short of ideas here.

It’s clever from Wolves.

They’re winning the midfield battles, so Liverpool have to go wide, where their two options are Salah, who is swarmed by three shirts every time he even looks at the ball, and Jota, who is given the classic returning player treatment from the fans.

Liverpool do have a very central free kick about 35 yards from goal to do something with now.

It’s natural that rebuilding an entire midfield is going to have teething issues, and that’s very evident out there today.

The Reds are losing all the midfield battles and look very disjointed.

It will come with time playing together, but there are just so many gaps in there for Wolves to carve clean through.

Very little rhythm for the visitors in attack.

Every time Jota gets the ball there’s a chorus of boos.

It’s seeming to do the trick as he loses the ball and suddenly Wolves are back on the break.

Bellegarde and Neto once again combine with their progressive play, and Neto’s shot from the edge of the box curls just wide of the post.

The phrase ‘like a hot knife through butter’ springs to mind.

It’s been a pretty breathless start so far here, but Liverpool are just starting to get a few more touches on the ball.

They’re yet to really trouble the hosts, but a few more touches will settle some nerves in those red shirts.

Liverpool just haven’t been able to get going this afternoon and it’s all down to the brilliance of Wolves.

Ait-Nouri and Neto in particular have been very sharp.

Salah does well to wriggle free and get a cross into the box, and Jota gets on the end of it with three players around him.

He won’t want to see a replay of that, though. Way back in Row Z.

Wolves have started so brightly.

Semedo does fantastically on the right, swinging an early ball into Neto but Gomez just gets a touch on it to force Neto’s shot over the bar.

Liverpool aren’t clearing their lines at the moment and Wolves can keep the pressure on.

Well you can’t say it is against the run of play – Wolves have been flying early on in this one.

It’s all down to the work of Pedro Neto who drives through half the Liverpool team before a brilliant change of speed takes him away from Szoboszlai.

He reaches the byline and cuts back for Hwang in the box, who finishes well from an angle.

What a start for the hosts!

An early booking for Mac Allister after Cunha gets a little tug in the shirt from the Argentine near the edge of the box.

It’s minimal contact, but there is a tug there and now Wolves have a dangerous opportunity…

… which they can’t take advantage of as Liverpool clear the set-piece.

Liverpool struggle to win lunchtime games, but they’ve beaten Wolves 12 times in their last 13 games in the league.

To throw another spanner in the works, though, Wolves have only scored 12 in their last 23 against Liverpool in the Premier League.

Will they buck the trend today, with Liverpool lacking Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk, or will it be more of the same for the Reds?

We’re about to find out – they’re on the way out from the tunnel.

He might not be in the side but he’s certainly making an impression on one young Wolves fan…

Liverpool are obviously the favourites going into this one – as they are against almost any team in the league.

But how do Wolves win? Well, the obvious answer is goals obviously, but they also need to try and keep the goals out their own net.

The stats show that Wolves only actually won twice in their last 37 games in which they’ve conceded at least one.goal.

In their last 14 games when they’ve conceded, Wolves have lost every one of them.

One of Liverpool’s new signings to make a good impression already is Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine lifted the World Cup and got Brighton into Europe for the first time, but claims Klopp’s ‘desire’ to take him to Anfield proved decisive in his move.

Gary O’Neil has been talking about what it’s like taking over on the cusp of the first game of the campaign.

Remember, Julen Loptegui left the club three days before the start of the season, leaving O’Neil with little enough time to get going.

He seems optimistic about his side’s ability to test the backline today with the visitors missing ‘Trent and Virg’.

He makes a good point, though. If you’re going to take on Liverpool, it might as well be without two of their biggest stars.

But despite all the talk, Salah has shown that he’s been able to ccast it all aside and focus on his own game.

He’s now on a run of 10 consecutive goal contributions after his exploits last time out.

The last player to do that for Liverpool was… well … Salah.

His last run – between August and December 2021 – lasted 15 games – will he make it 11 today?

There was a lot of speculation about Salah’s future at Liverpool at the tail end of the transfer window.

But Klopp was quick to shut down any talk of a January exit to Al-Ittihad yesterday – and even pointed out there’s still four months or so to go until talk really needs to pick up once more about his talisman’s future.

It’s a huge day for Quansah – but maybe one to forget so far for TNT Sport’s Peter Crouch.

He may have been a world class striker in his day, but Crouchy hasn’t given the best account of himself there in the crossbar challenge…

So we mentioned that Wolves managed to pull off an impressive 3-0 win last time these two met at Molineux.

That was actually the end of a long and arduous run of six home losses on the trot, but it’s been an even longer wait for consecutive wins over the Reds at home.

The last time Wolves managed back-to-back victories was between February 1980 and August 1981, when they managed a trio of wins.

Will we see a big shock tonday?

So Darwin Nunez drops to the bench for the lunchtime kick-off.

There’s one former Reds legend though who can tell you that a tough start at Anfield is not the be all and end all of a Liverpool career.

Peter Crouch told Mail Sport that he sees plenty of similarities between himself and the young Uruguayan.

So two changes for the hosts, who bring in Bellegarde and Hwang after a defeat to Palace last time out.

For Liverpool Gravenberch starts on the bench, with Mac Allister starting despite playing in the high altitude of La Paz in midweek.

Trent comes out with injury for Quansah at the back, while Diaz and Nunez are replaced by Jota and Gakpo

We’ll find out who’s lining up in just a sec for these teams, who have had more than their fair look at one another in 2023.

Four times they’ve met already, having been forced to play a replay in January and meeting twice more in the league.

Liverpool edge the head-to-head in that spell with two wins and a draw, but Wolves did pull off a 3-0 mauling of their own at Molineux… which is where this one will be played today.

The Reds have however dominated the last 11 meetings, winning nine including a a run of seven victories on the bounce.

He could get his debut today – we’ll find out in less than 10 minutes – but Ryan Gravenberch has already amde a splash at Liverpool.

Since his £35m move from Bayern Munich on deadline day, the midfielder rejected the chance to represent the Dutch U21s in the international break.

Klopp mentioned in his presser yesterday that it allowed the youngster to get to grips with his new home, but the Dutch management weren’t best pleased with the call from Gravenberch…

The 12.30pm game has been… trying for Liverpool fans over the last 12 months, shall we say?
