The January transfer window has long provided teams with the opportunity to fill the gaps in some gaping squad holes.

Whether it be an injury to a star striker or key defender, teams usually save their larger business for the summer and dip into the January window for something extra.

So far we have seen Tottenham be very active, as they signed Timo Werner on loan and Radu Dragusin for £26million.

Fulham swooped in late last night to secure a loan deal for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

But, with many clubs also securing some critical loan deals – which team won the January transfer window?

For the past few years, Spurs fans have become well accustomed to Daniel Levy waiting until the last second to secure the best possible deal.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the side missed out on top players such as Paulo Dybala and Jack Grealish.

But it appears times have changed, and after a summer which involved signing James Maddison early in the window, Spurs look to have done the best business.

The loan signing of Werner from RB Leipzig looks to be a very good move, plus another central defender in Dragusin from Genoa will be provide depth in defence.

Fulham’s last-minute signing of Broja on loan should also be appreciated, especially given their lack of goals up top this league.

Broja could well provide the missing goalscoring threat that has been left since the departure of Mitrovic to the Saudi league.

While on the topic of loan deals, both Sheffield United and West Ham seem to have secured the best options.

Sheffield United’s double-loan signing of Ben Brereton Diaz from Villarreal and Mason Holgate from Everton will provide some solid options for Chris Wilder.

With Diaz already scoring two goals, most recently with one against Crystal Palace, goals are what is needed to keep clubs afloat in the Premier League and it looks as though they have got some help.

Meanwhile, West Ham’s signing of forgotten Man City star Kalvin Phillips will surely help them in their bid to secure European football.

The former Leeds midfielder has proven his talent in an England and Leeds shirt, but failed to impress under Guardiola.

Following the departure of Declan Rice last summer, Phillips could well be the midfield spark David Moyes’ side need.

Aston Villa were also active in the transfer market, although their signings are more for the future.

After Middlesborough finally accepted a bid for forward Morgan Rogers for £8million, Unai Emery had his man.

The former Arsenal manager was said to be observing the young talent for a long period of time.

They have also added right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic from Red Star Belgrade for £7.8m to provide back-up to Matty Cash.

Meanwhile, both Bertrand Traore and Leander Dendoncker have left on frees to Villarreal and Napoli respectively.

Finally, Burnlley, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have all added to their squads.

Brighton are another side to be buying for the future, with the pick of those being Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors.

Dubbed the Football Manager wonderkid, the Argentinian could well be another uncovered gem by Brighton.

Vincent Kompany’s side have brought in David Fofana on loan from Chelsea, as right-back Daniel Munoz joins the Eagles from Genk for £8.5m

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest also added Giovanni Reyna to their ranks from Borussia Dortmund on loan and Matz Sels from Strasbourg for £5m.

In terms of the clubs who haven’t bought reinforcements, not much can be made from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City who were active in the summer transfer window.

Their lack of signings may be a hindrance come the latter stages of the season, but with Conor Bradley’s performance for Liverpool blowing away fans it seems there is plenty of squad depth at these top clubs.

Meanwhile, Chelsea it can be argued may actually have enjoyed a good transfer window – contrary to what fans might think.

Following their enormous spending spree in the previous two transfer windows, the side are clearly unsettled with Pochettino regularly choosing different line-ups for each game.

Some regularity and similar faces may be exactly what the Blues need after a very tough start to the season.
