Joe Cole: ‘United have been poor’

Joe Cole has been scathing with his assessment of United’s first half performance, accusing the team of no showing ‘no imagination’ when going forward.

Will Ten Hag consider some changes at the break?

Maguire in the thick of the action

Maguire being offside meant United’s early goal was ruled out, and he also went down in the first half after taking a blow to the face.

Fortunately, he has been able to play on and shown no ill-effects of that knock so far.

Half time

There’s the whistle and we’re still goalless.

Fulham finished that half well, and United will now they need to do a lot better to get a result here.

45+3 min – Muniz heads over

Fulham are finishing this half as the stronger side and they get two more corners in quick succession.

Muniz gets on the end of the second, but is under a lot of pressure and can only head over the bar.

Five minutes added time

After the early Maguire injury and then VAR check for the disallowed goal, we have five minutes added time.

45 min – Spell of pressure for Fulham

The hosts have just started getting on the front foot in the last couple of minutes.

They force a corner, but the final ball isn’t good enough in the end.

They get the ball back ,though, and Willian curls an effort narrowly wide.

Jenas slams United’s ‘half-hearted’ press

TNT Sports co-commentator Jermaine Jenas has not been impressed with United’s work off the ball, claiming the pressing has been half-hearted in this first half.

42 min – Challenges flying in

Both teams want free-kicks after apparent fouls but the referee waves play on.

That sums up the scrappiness of this game so far, as Bassey then plays the ball out of play under no pressure whatsoever.

38 min – Iwobi fires over

Poor from Eriksen as he takes too long before shooting, and then Garnacho gifts the ball to Iwobi who charges upfield.

He gets to the edge of the area but doesn’t keep his composure and shoots well over.

How close United were to taking the lead

This image shows how close United were to taking the lead earlier before VAR ruled Maguire to be interfering with play.

33 min – Leno saves from Bruno

Better from United as they wor the ball into the box and then the ball is laid off for Bruno.

He tries a curling effort but Leno gets across to his left and manages to hold on.

32 min – Evans volleys over

United have looked dangerous from set-pieces, and the ball drops to Evans after an unconvincing punch from Leno.

The ball is behind him, though, and his acrobatic effort flies over.

31 min – Robinson booked

Wilson finds space and drives towards the edge of the box but his shot is blocked by Evans and United counter.

Robinson gets back, but is late on Antony and he is the first player to go into the book.

28 min – Brilliant defending from Dalot

Willian has been Fulham’s most dangerous player and he puts in a great cross.

Dalot has to track back and cuts it out just in the nick of time with Wilson right behind him. Great defending.

27 min – McTominay gets a half-chance

Maguire plays a cross-field ball to Garnacho who cuts the ball back to McTominay.

He’s under pressure but should probably make better contact as his shoot is blocked away. Garnacho is then caught offside after putting in the initial cross.

Honours even so far

23 min – Willian shoots wide

Lovely first time ball from Palhinha finds Willian down the left. This time he goes on the outside and his shot his deflected wide.

The resulting corner drops to Wilson on the edges of the box but he shoots high and wide.

21 min – Scrappy game

Neither side has been able to put together a sustained spell of pressure so far.

McTominay makes another good run from midfield but the ball doesn’t quite find him this time.

16 min – First chance for Fulham

Willian gets in behind Wan-Bissaka and runs at Maguire. He cuts inside and gets a shot off but it’s blocked and then Wilson is just offside.

First moment of danger for United there.

14 min – Nervy moment at the back for Fulham

Fulham try to play out from the back and Robinson and Ream are almost caught in possession.

They just about clear the danger, but the home side haven’t really settled yet.

12 min – Offside, no goal

The goal has been disallowed with Maguire deemed to be interfering.

That’s a controversial call. Big let-off for Fulham.

10 min – On-field review

VAR have told the referee to go and check the monitor to determine whether he feels Harry Maguire is interfering with play in the build-up to the goal.

8 min – McTominay scores!

There’s the start United needed!

Palhinha catches Bruno late to give United a free-kick in a dangerous area. Eriksen clips the ball in and Garnacho fires the ball across the face of goal for McTominay to tap home.

VAR is checking for offside, though…

6 min – Cautious start

Neither side yet to get on top in the early stages.

Pereira briefly gets into space down the left but his cross is easily cleared, before Maguire tries a ball over the top that is cut out easily.

3 min – Maguire back up

Maguire is back to his feet and looks to be OK. He looks set to come back on and play but that’s one to keep an eye on.

1 min – Maguire goes down

This is not a good start for United. Harry Maguire has gone down inside the first minute after appearing to take a blow to the face.

He looks a little dazed and he requires treatment.

And we’re off!

United get the game underway at Craven Cottage…

Ferdinand concerned by United discipline

Ferdinand has worries over United’s discipline, highlighting Rashford’s decision to go clubbing just hours after a heavy defeat in the Manchester derby.

He has questioned why Rashford seemed to not ‘be aware of the situation’, suggesting that he should not have gone out given United’s current struggles on the pitch.

Varane misses out again

Rashford won’t play today and Varane may not get a game again either as he has been left on the bench.

It is a bold move from Ten Hag to pick Maguire and Evans at the back again after they struggled in the Manchester derby. Will it pay off?

Joe Cole: ‘So many problems with this team’

Joe Cole has also slammed the current state of affairs at United on TNT Sports as he believes there are ‘so many problems’ at the club.

He feels the players ‘must take responsibility’ but has also admitted Ten Hag deserves to be questioned after the poor recent run of results.

Silva: ‘United can punish you in many ways’

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been speaking to TNT Sports prior to kick-off and is not taking United lightly at all despite their poor run of form.

He insists United are capable of hurting teams ‘in many ways’ and knows his team need to be at their best today to get all three points.

Leg injury for Rashford

We now have confirmation Rashford has not been left out due to going out clubbing last weekend.

The 26-year-old has picked up a leg injury in training and not recovered in time for today’s game.

Fulham team news in

Andreas Pereira starts against his former club for Fulham.

He is joined in midfield by Joao Palhinha and Alex Iwobi.

No Rashford for United

Marcus Rashford is not in the squad at all for United. The reason for his absence is unclear for now – we should get confirmation from Ten Hag shortly.

Raphael Varane is back on the bench, with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans continuing in defence for the visitors.

Nani defends Bruno

Roy Keane called for Bruno Fernandes to be stripped of the captain’s armband last week but former United star Nani has defended the midfielder, and feels his team-mates need to step up to help him.

United in the building

Team news is just over 10 minutes away, with United having already arrived at Craven Cottage a little earlier.

Welch creates history

Rebecca Welch will be the first female referee to be involved in a Premier League game today.

She is due to be the fourth official at Craven Cottage.

Pressure on Ten Hag

United have lost eight games in all competitions already this season and another defeat today could leave Ten Hag in serious trouble.

Mail Sport has looked back at how things have gone wrong for his predecessors over the years as United have moved from one manager to the next.

Ten Hag slams Rashford

Erik ten Hag has labelled Marcus Rashford’s decision to go out clubbing into the early hours after last weekend’s Manchester derby defeat as ‘unacceptable’.

He revealed Rashford has apologised and has stated he is available to play today. Will he keep his place in the starting XI or could Rashford be dropped? We will find out at 11:30.
