Ian Wright believes the pressure could mount on Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino if he fails to get the Blues firing in their next two Premier League games.

The Argentine was appointed in the summer, with the hope of turning round Chelsea’s fortunes after a disastrous campaign last season, but the Blues have won just one of their opening six games.

Their latest setback came on Sunday at Stamford Bridge in 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, and the failure to find the net means Pochettino’s men have scored just five goals so far this season.

Chelsea take on Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but Wright says they have to take something from their following league fixtures when they take on Fulham and then Burnley

‘You look at those, a derby against Fulham and then Burnley, those are must-win games,’ Wright stated on the latest episode of The Kelly and Wrighty Show with Kelly Cates. ‘

‘You would worry for them [if they lose those].

‘You look at Chelsea and you think something is going to have to give soon. I think it’s the next two games. If they don’t do it, you have to start worrying for Pochettino.’

Pochettino was heavily backed in the summer by owner Todd Boehly, as the American owner hit the £1billion barrier in transfer spending during his tenure by bringing in names such as Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer.

However, the new boss has failed to find the right formula on the pitch since taking charge and the former England striker says you can’t use that as an excuse – especially when you see what is happening across London with Spurs.

Wright added: ‘I’m not sure if a new manager would come in and change it straight away but we have seen it with Ange Postecoglou.

In five or six games he’s got a style that everyone understands and we can all see. When we look at Chelsea, we still don’t even know what their best XI is.’

The west London side already find themselves nine points from the Premier League’s top four, sitting in 14th spot in the Premier League. Their return of five points from their opening six games is the club’s worst start since 1978.
