Nadia Sawalha has paid tribute to her husband of 19-years Mark Adderley with a sweet social media message as he marks his 16th year sober.

The Loose Women panellist, 55, admitted Mark quitting booze ‘saved them both’ and revealed that she is in ‘awe’ of his ability to stay sober in an ‘alcohol obsessed world’.

Alongside the passage shared on her Instagram page, Nadia also posted a selection of loved-up snaps of herself and Mark over the years.

In an open letter penned to Mark, Nadia wrote: ‘My darling today is your 16th sober birthday and that is a huge huge thing. I never underestimate what it takes for you to stay sober one day at a time.

‘In an alcohol obsessed world you have had to be incredibly strong so that you can keep yourself and your family safe. Never a day goes by without me being in awe of you and how you do it.’

She quipped: ‘I’m not going to lie, sometimes you are a bloody nightmare, but then again so am I! We were both crazy drinkers and you getting sober saved us both.

‘Nineteen years of loving you, sixteen with you never being able “to take the edge off” and god only knows how tough that must be being married to me !!!!’

She added: ‘I love you. Thank you. One day at a time baby. You and me till death do is part. Thank you too you have helped so many get their lives back x

‘God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference…’

Earlier this year Nadia revealed she was planning a ‘totally sober’ vow renewal with Mark, after she proposed to him after 18 years of marriage.

Although Covid-19 blighted plans to say I do again on a Greek beach, they decided instead to hold the ceremony in Cornwall.

At the time she told the Mirror: ‘What we thought we might be able to do is go to Greece and do it in a nice villa on the beach. But I think what we’re going to do now is do it in one of our favourite places on earth and that is Cornwall.’

She added: ‘My husband has been 16 years sober, which at weddings can be very, very tough sometimes. So what I want to do is, I want to have a tee-total wedding. I don’t want to drink anything.

‘Mark never minds me drinking, he’s always happy for me to have a drink. But I think it would be really nice if I could have a totally sober day – no drink, with just family, although I don’t know what my family will say.’

In February this year, Mark was a special guest on Loose Women, where he opened up about his issues during the launch of their new male mental health campaign, Stand By Your Men, which is part of the show’s Lighten the Load initiative.

Mark discussed his drink and drug issues and the drink-driving arrest which led him to make the decision to cut alcohol out of his life.
