A ‘dangerous’ Sheffield man who “should be nowhere near women” after he raped two victims and threatened to kill one of them and hide her in a canal has been jailed for 18 years.

Luke Scott left his victim feeling like “everything had been tainted by him” following a brutal campaign of abuse across a four month period which included raping and violently assaulting her on a number of occasions.

During his trial, the court heard how on one occasion, Scott demanded money from his victim so he could buy cannabis and when she refused, he grabbed her by the arm and punched her in the face four times. After causing her facial injuries, Scott pulled a kitchen knife and a screwdriver from his pocket and threatened to “kill her”, before saying he will “hide her in the canal.”

Scott’s violent behaviour saw him subject his victim to further attacks as he threw a glass coffee table at her and raped her on a number of occasions.

Later, a second victim bravely came forward and reported that Scott had assaulted her, attacking her throughout the course of an evening including hitting her with a part from a hoover before raping her.

When his victim stated she did not want to have sex and tried to push him off, Scott ignored this and continued to rape her. His victim described being so fearful that she would be subjected to further assaults if she continued to push him off that she has stopped resisting and describes “going into herself” emotionally until he finally stopped.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, she said: “Everything felt tainted by him. Just visiting the local shops and area, was a reminder of what had happened. I was having flashbacks and mental health episodes because everywhere I turned, I was reminded of Luke.

“The pain and memories of that time will always remain with me. I feel haunted and trapped by him, and I hope desperately that he will never come near me again.”

Scott, 32, of Gleadless Road, was found guilty of fourteen serious offences at Sheffield Crown Court on January 31, which saw the trial come back with a guilty verdict for all counts after just three hours.

Investigations Officer Alyshea Sharp said: “This was a horrific campaign of abuse by a dangerous man who should be nowhere near women. I want to personally commend the two victims in this case for their immense bravery in telling police what happened. Taking that first step and disclosing abuse can be a daunting step, but in doing so they have ensured that Scott is no longer walking the streets of our community where he could have gone on to cause further harm.

“By pleading not guilty, Scott forced his victims to relive the abuse he subjected them to and I am pleased the jury returned a guilty verdict and Scott is now behind bars for a very long time. We want victims of rape, abuse and any form of assault to know that we are here to listen to them and to offer the appropriate help and support to keep you safe from offenders like Scott.

“We treat all reports of this nature extremely seriously and all allegations will be thoroughly investigated, no matter who you are, your background or your circumstances.”

On Friday (March 22), Scott was jailed for four counts of assault , three accounts of rape, two counts of harassment, threats to kill, theft from a person, criminal damage, intentional strangulation and engage in controlling and coercive behaviour. He was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison , four years on licence on release and will remain on the sex offenders list indefinitely.
