Northern Territory man slurps up snake hanging from its mouth on Sandover Highway near Alice Springs

An outback tradie could only watch in astonishment as a snake become prey to a cow that sucked the reptile up without a worry.

Refrigeration mechanic Andrew Gertz was driving to work in Alice Springs along the Sandover Highway in the Northern Territory on October 23 when he noticed something strange on the side of the road.

‘I saw this thing hanging out of the cow’s mouth so I pulled over and recognised it was a sand python,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

He said it looked like the cow had sucked the snake head off of the bone, which could be seen in the disturbing images.

Mr Gertz estimated the snake was half a metre long.

He also couldn’t work out how the cow got hold of the snake into it’s mouth, but thought the snake may have disturbed the animal.

Mr Gertz, who has worked in the area for eight years, said he had never seen anything like it before.

‘You see cow hides, roadkill, kangaroo bones but I have never seen a snake being prey like that – especially so fresh,’ he told the ABC.

‘I showed my boss, and he was on a cattle station when he was younger, as well as locals and they said it was rare.’
