Peaky Blinders was a British phenomenon long before Netflix acquired the rights to broadcast the show around the world.
Starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the six-season series was famously set in Birmingham, England and took place following the events in World War I. The first season followed Tommy and his brothers — Arthur (Paul Anderson), John (Joe Cole) and Finn (Harry Kirton) — in 1919 as they grow the Shelby Company Limited, which was set up as a way to keep track of all legal business dealings done by the Peaky Blinders gang.
“There was slight hesitation because I’d never really played that physically imposing sort of hyper-masculine-type character,” Murphy told Entertainment Weekly in June 2022, when reflecting on his character. “In fact, I’d probably played the opposite up to that point. But I knew that it was such amazing material, and I knew that it was a gift of a role and I just needed to convince them that I could do it and I could work to become that physically imposing character.”
Murphy, obviously, wowed Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight because he nabbed the role and became Tommy F—king Shelby to the world. Keep scrolling to see what the cast of Peaky Blinders is doing now:

Once his role as Tommy Shelby came to an end, Murphy famously went on to star in the movie Oppenheimer where he played father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The Irish star won the Best Actor Academy Award at the 2024 Oscars for his role in the Christopher Nolan-directed film.
McCrory played the role of Polly Shelby for the show’s first five seasons. While she was set to return forthe final season, production was put on hold in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The cast returned to film the show in January 2021, sans McCrory due to her battle with breast cancer. The actress died at age 52 in April of that year.
Anderson played the eldest Shelby brother, Arthur, for the duration of the series. He’s since gone on to star in the January 2024 Netflix movie Lift. Later that month, Anderson appeared in court, pleading guilty to four charges of drug possession and was fined £1,345 (which converts to $1,697.93.).
Cole made his Peaky Blinders debut as Michael Gray during the show’s second season and went on to become the show’s antagonist. He’s since appeared in a Netflix movie Locked In and is set to star in the upcoming movie Last Breath.
Hardy made his first Peaky Blinders appearance as Alfie Solomons in the show’s second season and quickly became a fan favorite. He’s narrated Falklands War: The Untold Story and Predators since the show came to an end and has also executive produced the BBC Great Expectations miniseries. Hardy will star in the upcoming movie The Bikeriders and will reprise his role as Eddie Brock and Venom — which he originated in 2018 — in Venom: The Last Dance.
Cole only starred as John Shelby for the show’s first four seasons before his character died. He’s since appeared in Black Mirror, Pule, Gangs of London, The Ipcress File, A Small Light, A Prayer Before Dawn, One of These Days and Against the Ice, among other roles.
The actress played Grace Shelby for the first three seasons of the show. Her character also met an untimely death, but Wallis did return to appear as Grace in season 5 as well. Since her last Peaky Blinders appearance, Wallis has starred in The Loudest Voice, Star Trek: Discovery, The Silencing, Silent Night and other roles.
