David Letterman’s show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, featured Ellen DeGeneres in 2019. She was all praises for her wife, calling her “fantastic.”
“She’s very, very funny,” DeGeneres gushed. “She makes me laugh, which is really important.”
DeGeneres was preparing for her first stand-up special in over 15 years. She revealed that her wife, de Rossi, was a rock-solid support system. De Rossi didn’t just cheer her on but also gave her constructive feedback after every performance.
Then came the divorce rumors. But DeGeneres chose to see the silver lining in it.
“The divorce rumors came and then we really knew the perceptions had changed,” she shared with Letterman. “I’m not kidding. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when that started happening, I thought, ‘Oh, now we’re finally accepted.’ We get the same s–t as every celebrity couple.”
She continued, “I thought, ‘Wow, this is great that I’m pregnant, not pregnant, divorced, not divorced, whatever. That means there is an acceptance for this.”
