Amid a strange awards season, one thing has remained the same: a few deserving celebrities have ended their glammed-up evenings with a shiny new talking piece to display on their mantle.
Or … somewhere else! When it comes to storing their awards, celebrities have been known to choose some interesting spots for safekeeping.
While many stars, such as Julia Roberts and Sean “Diddy” Combs, like to keep their statues in rooms where they can show them off, others, like Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow, choose to go a less traditional (or “above the fireplace”) route.
One star, however, may have everyone beat when it comes to strange storage options. During a March 2021 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Rosamund Pike shared that she doesn’t feel comfortable showcasing her awards in her house. How does she cure this discomfort? By burying them in her garden, of course!
“I think it’s awkward, so I bury it in the garden with a little bit showing up so you can have an enticing glimpse of a hand or the globe maybe,” the Gone Girl actress said at the time. “I think it’s amusing because in the future, when I’m dead and gone or when somebody else buys the house, they’ll be landscaping and they’ll hit metal and they’ll think they found buried treasure and they’ll have in fact found a host of awards.”

“I don’t think you should walk around to the afterparties and carry it,” the Oppenheimer star admitted to E! News in April 2024, one month after winning his Best Supporting Actor Oscar. “I don’t think you should flaunt it. I’m not saying you should use it as a toilet paper holder or anything.”
Still, he has the award right where his visitors can find it. “Right now, it’s in the entryway,” he said.
“My kids have these two little stuffies of Bert and Ernie, so the [Golden] Globe is currently in between Bert and Ernie,” Culkin, who shares two kids with wife Jazz Charton, told Variety one week after taking home his first Golden Globe in January 2024 for his role in Succession. He went on to joke that he was still waiting to receive his 2024 Critics Choice trophy for the same performance.
Mraz exclusively told Us in October 2023 that he keeps his two Grammy Awards in his bathroom. While competing on Dancing With the Stars season 32, he declared the mirrorball would sit next to them should he win. “It would be in my favorite [place],” he quipped.
The Bear actor admitted that his SAG Award will stay in his daughters’ bedroom. “They’ve started calling these Daddy’s trophy winner cups and they really like them, so they can hang onto them for me,” he said to People in February 2023.
White elaborated on how he prefers to store his awards, telling Variety later that year, “I’ve got one somewhere around here. There’s one in my daughter’s room. There’s one on a bookshelf. They’re scattered around. I want to make sure wherever anybody is, they can see.”
“The situation is my mom stole the first [Emmy]. She actually did. She said she would look after it and six months ago said, ‘I am not giving it back.’ To be fair, I think she keeps it as the only excuse to get me to visit,” the Ted Lasso star told E! News in September 2022 after winning his second Emmy for the hit Apple+ series. “I might have to lock [the second award] up somewhere.”
The Fences star keeps her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in her office — next to her Emmy and Tony.
“That’s [all] Julius,” she told ABC, referring to production partner Julius Tennon. “If it were up to me, I’d keep it in my garage to keep me humble.”
Strange but true — the actress keeps her awards buried in her garden.
“I just find it an uneasy thing to display any award in your home because how do people interact with them when they come home?” Pike told Ellen DeGeneres. “Do they say, ‘Oh, wow … those are your awards?’”
Hawn, who won best supporting actress at the 1970 Oscars for her role in Cactus Flower, prefers to think of awards as pieces of history.
“My award is in the room where I study and practice meditation. Sometimes it’s on the mantel, sometimes I put it away,” she told InStyle in 2001. “Trophy rooms are the opposite of me.”
The Pretty Woman actress revealed her Oscar’s whereabouts during a December 2019 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, telling the talk show host that she keeps it in “the parlor.” After DeGeneres asked her what exactly a parlor was, she explained that she meant the room where she keeps her piano.
“I thought it might sound pretentious, so I said ‘parlor,'” Roberts said, laughing.
“You thought ‘parlor’ sounded less pretentious?” DeGeneres joked.
The rapper told Us Weekly that he keeps his Grammys in a special area of his house he likes to call his “Sunday room.”
“[It’s] this room that just feels intimate, that just feels like it would be the perfect place to do a photo shoot reading the New York and L.A. Times on a Sunday,” he said in September 2016. “I don’t get to use it a lot, but I fantasize a lot about myself being calm enough to sit down and read the papers and have some coffee and just act really sophisticated and look up at my Grammys. I just haven’t gotten to doing that part of it yet.”
The actress showed off her awards display in an April 2017 tweet after a plotline on her FX show Feud discussed where Bette Davis’ awards were stored.
“Bette’s Oscars weren’t in the bathroom, but mine is,” Sarandon wrote.
Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, have shared snaps of their impressive trophy shelf. After completing his EGOT in 2018, the “All of Me” singer had to stand on a chair to put his Tony award on the top shelf.
Semi-retired for good reason!
”[I keep my Oscar] tucked away at the back of the bookshelf in my bedroom because it weirds me out,” the actress told Contact Music in January 2005. “For weeks after I won, I kept it in storage … I won’t even put it on the mantlepiece, the thing freaks me out.”
Paltrow won the award in 1999 for her work in Shakespeare in Love.
“For some reason, I haven’t been able to feel really good about it. I just feel sort of embarrassed and it brings up weird, traumatic feelings. It’s associated with a tough time in my life,” the Goop founder noted.
As it turns out, keeping your award in the bathroom is more popular than you’d think.
“Everybody wants to hold it and goes, ’Oh, my gosh,’ and ‘How heavy is it?’ So I figured if I put it in the loo, then people can avoid the whole, ‘Where’s your Oscar?’ thing,” the 2009 best actress Oscar winner told the U.K.’s GMTV in February 2010.
Though the actress tried to give her Emmy awards away to her daughters, she didn’t have much luck.
“I was like, ‘OK, I can put one on your shelf, Sunday, and one on your shelf, Faith, and they’re yours,'” Kidman said during a December 2018 Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance. “[Sunday] said, ‘Oh, I want to earn my own.’ I’m like, ‘You go, girl!’”
