Premier condemns ‘sickening’ attack on Nine security guard

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has condemned the ‘sickening’ attack on a Channel 9 security guard who was assaulted outside the Melbourne headquarters of the television network yesterday.

In the video, the guard was knocked to the ground and racially abused, with the associate telling him: “dance monkey, dance”.

He then told the guard “don’t you f—— touch me” before Sewell went in for the attack.

Sewell had demanded to see A Current Affair staff upon arriving at the Channel 9 office.

When he and his associate were forced to leave the building, he assaulted the guard.

Sewell posted the video of the appalling attack online.

Mr Andrews weighed in on the violent attack today, saying while he has not seen the footage, there was “no place” for any of those “evil” attitudes.

“There’s no place for those attitudes and conduct in a modern Victoria,” he said.

“Those views are just wicked and there is no place for them.”

Former Labor leader Bill Shorten slammed the treatment of the security guard today.

‘What a cowardly scumbag,” he said.

“I’m sure the police will do their job and catch this bloke.

“I feel for the security worker, I mean I just hope he’s ok frankly.”

Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, wished the security guard a “full and speedy recovery”.

“We are deeply saddened and horrified by this cowardly and sickening attack and condemn it in strongest possible terms,” Dr Abramovich said.

“This assault, which has no place in our society, is another reminder of the racist ideology of the neo-Nazi movement and how quickly its agents of hate are willing to engage in violence.

“We hope that Victoria Police apprehend the perpetrators of this ugly attack and that they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Victoria Police has been given CCTV vision of the attack.
