Premier League predictions: Gameweek 35

The football continues to come thick and fast with more twists and turns expected this weekend in Gameweek 35 of the 2023/24 Premier League.

The title race provided more drama in midweek as Arsenal and Manchester City picked up three more points each, but Liverpool stumbled dramatically in their 2-0 Merseyside derby defeat. Another underwhelming loss would almost certainly end any lingering aspirations for more silverware under departing boss Jurgen Klopp.

There’s also the possibility of a first confirmed relegation of the top-flight season down at the bottom, where others will be hoping to stay alive before the campaign concludes. Throw in a north London derby on Sunday and the stage is set for a mouthwatering slate of fixtures.

Here’s how 90min sees Gameweek 35 playing out.

Saturday 27 April

Liverpool may have relinquished top spot in the Premier League table for the last time this season. Losses to Crystal Palace and Everton have seen them lose ground on their title rivals and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Reds drop more points at West Ham United in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Fulham and Crystal Palace sit 13th and 14th respectively and are separated by three points before their meeting at Craven Cottage, where the home side have picked up most of their victories. However, the in-form duo of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise could prove inspirational once again for the Eagles on their travels.

Manchester United‘s season has descended into utter chaos, with their last six matches returning scorelines of 1-1, 4-3, 2-2, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-2. Burnley will hope to hurt the perennially open Red Devils, but whether they have the star power to get a result is another matter.

Sheffield United‘s relegation will be confirmed if they are beaten by Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The Magpies dismantled Tottenham at home last time out while the Blades have recouped only six points from 17 away trips in 2023/24 so far.

18th-placed Luton Town are still alive and kicking but consecutive 5-1 losses mean their goal difference is significantly worse than Nottingham Forest’s in 17th. Saturday does present them with a clash with a Wolves side without a victory in seven games, but Gary O’Neil’s Wanderers might instead return to winning ways at Molineux.

Everton managed a monumental success in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, all but securing their place in the top flight next season. The Toffees might feel less anxious and more freed up when they host Brentford, who themselves have allayed fears of dropping into the bottom three with wins over Sheffield Utd and Luton.

Aston Villa are edging closer and closer to confirming a spot in the top four and may take another step in that direction by easing past a rudderless Chelsea, who lost 5-0 to Arsenal without Cole Palmer in midweek. The Blues aren’t far off the European places but can’t be trusted to put any momentum together.

Sunday 28 April

Both clubs sit on the south coast but there’s very little animosity between Bournemouth and Brighton. The Cherries have jumped above the Seagulls and might make home advantage count on Sunday, with Roberto De Zerbi’s squad looking completely drained of energy in their loss to Man City.

There’s no disputing the mutual hatred between Tottenham and Arsenal, however. The Gunners will expect earn to win at the home of their bitter rivals for the second season on the trot to stay alive in the title race, which would further dampen Spurs’ Champions League hopes in the process.

That win could be cancelled out when Manchester City visit Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 35’s final fixture. The reigning champions looked ominously sharp when taking Brighton apart and Forest will be lucky if they can manage a few shots on target, let alone come up with three shouts for penalties.
