Mauricio Pochettino claims he is at the start of something special with Chelsea after seeing his first Premier League game with the Blues finish 1-1 against Liverpool.
While the hosts fell behind at Stamford Bridge, Axel Disasi scored on his debut for Chelsea to level the scores, and ultimately finish up with a point from their opening fixture.
When asked by BBC‘s Match of the Day whether a draw was a fair result, Pochettino replied: ‘I don’t believe it is. I think we deserved a little bit more overall. We feel pleased, but at the same time disappointed because we wanted to win and we deserved to win, but it is only the beginning.
‘We have created a very good way to work here and that is important. It is about belief and about work and to trust each other. The connection from day one has been fantastic.
‘The fans were always with us. Even in the difficult moment they were there, they never gave up and always believed in the team and the team felt the energy from the crowd.

‘It was difficult from the beginning but how we grew in the game and how we found the way to play and how we started to dominate and push Liverpool deeper and deeper, I am very pleased about everything.
‘We need to grow every single day.’
Pochettino was installed as Chelsea manager this summer, after a turbulent merry-go-round of bosses in the past 12 months.
It was his first time back in the Premier League since parting ways with Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, and talking about this with MOTD, the Argentine gaffer said: ‘The Premier League after four years [away], it is a fantastic way to start the season. I enjoyed the match a lot.’
During his contractual post-match discussion with broadcaster Sky Sports, Pochettino said: ‘It was difficult for us at the beginning as Liverpool were full of energy and they press really well. We made some mistakes and we were a little bit lucky we didn’t concede a second goal as then the game would’ve been very different.
‘After that, the team reacted very well and we started to dominate. We did better in the second half and created chances. I think we only conceded one shot on target and it was a goal.
‘Against a team like Liverpool, you have to be pleased. It’s only the beginning so this is the minimum standard.’
