Manchester City are reportedly finalising a deal to sign Argentinian wonderkid Claudio Echeverri from River Plate for a fee of £22 million.

The 17-year-old is one of the most promising talents to come out of Argentina and Pep Guardiola‘s side have acted quick to secure his signature, like they did with that of Julian Alvarez from River Plate before.

As reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the documents for the deal are being exchanged between the Citizens and River Plate to seal the agreement.

However, Guardiola will not get his hands on the youngster immediately as Romano revealed that Echeverri will star at River Plate until December 2024.

The Argentine will put pen to paper on a six-year contract to see him become the latest recruit for last season’s Treble winners.

Echeverri has made a total of four appearances this season, but spent time at the Under-17 World Cup last month, where he impressed for Argentina.

During his time at the tournament, the winger netted five goals and finished as the runner-up for the golden boot as Argentina finished fourth.

In recent times he has attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

However, Man City have swooped in to recruit the 17-year-old, with him returning to River on loan as part of the transfer.

The same happened when City completed the signing of Alvarez in January 2022 from River, allowing him to remain with the Argentine club until the end of the season.

It remains to be seen as to where the youngster fits into the plans at Man City, who let Cole Palmer leave in the summer.

The likes of Oscar Bobb and Micah Hamilton have been handed opportunities to impress out wide for Guardiola’s side already this season and Echeverri could add to the competition in future years.
