Jay Leno and his wife of nearly 44 years, Mavis Nicholson Leno, enjoyed a date night at the Hollywood premiere of Netflix film Unfrosted on Tuesday – three weeks after an LA County Superior Court judge granted his conservatorship amid her dementia diagnosis.

‘I feel great, yeah!’ the 77-year-old philanthropist told ET on the red carpet at the Egyptian Theatre.

The former Tonight Show host added: ‘Thought I’d come to something fun for a change. Everything is so controversial. Just to come to a funny, silly movie – it’s great. I think people will have a great time. Well, we hang out every day. We have a great time. 44 years! So we’re doing good.’

Jay might have turned 74 on Sunday, but he said they didn’t do anything special because he’s ‘not a big birthday guy.’

‘Neither of us [are]!’ Mavis added, leaning her head on Leno. ‘We just have each other.’

The two-time Emmy winner agreed: ‘My life is a party anyway, so every day is a good day.’

Jay and the Feminist Majority Foundation board member – who never had children – originally met in 1976 while he was performing at the Comedy Store in West Hollywood.

Leno filed for conservatorship over Mavis on January 26 in order to manage her ‘advanced dementia’ care and set up a living trust to ensure she has future care in the event of his death.

According to People, Dr. Hart Cohen reported the San Francisco-born philanthropist ‘sometimes does not know her husband nor her date of birth’ and ‘has a lot of disorientation, will ruminate about her parents who have both passed.’

Mavis’ neurologist added that the New York-born comedian is ‘such a nice man and treats her like gold’ and she considers him ‘her protector and she trusts him.’

Her health battle comes a little over a year since Jay suffered a broken collarbone, two fractured ribs, and two cracked kneecaps after crashing his vintage motorbike in Las Vegas.

This, six months after Leno suffered second- and third-degree burns ‘from a gasoline fire’ while working on a 1907 White Steam Car at his Big Dog Garage in Burbank.

The Bug Therapy actor received skin grafts ‘from a cadaver and from pig intestines’ to recreate his left ear and left side of his face at Grossman Burn Center in Burbank, according to People.

It’s been two years since Jay shot his role as legendary talk show host Ed Sullivan in Midas Man, Sara Sugarman’s long-delayed biopic on Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein, and it’s still unclear when it will see the light of day.
