The Los Angeles Lakers will have to advance through the Play-In Tournament following an up-and-down second season under head coach Darvin Ham. Right before LeBron James participates in his 17th postseason, his team appears to be chugging along at full dysfunction.
Lakers players wanted Darvin Ham fired early in 2023
According to a report from Hoops Wire, James and his teammates wanted the front office to make a coaching switch very early in this season.
Lakers players wanted assistant coach Phil Handy to replace Ham earlier in the season. However, Los Angeles owner Jeanie Buss is a fan of Ham, and she has never thought about firing him as coach. LeBron… has ignored Ham in many huddles this season and communicated with Handy instead on what the Lakers should run.
This isn’t too much of a surprise when you consider the awkward nature of James and Ham on the sidelines throughout this season. There have been several instances where James ignores or looks fed up with what Ham says to the team.
That lack of chemistry between coach and players makes success quite difficult, and it’s a big reason why the team hasn’t won more games under his watch.
