Romelu Lukaku downplays Golden Boot battle with Cristiano Ronaldo as he focuses on title race

Romelu Lukaku has admitted battling Cristiano Ronaldo for the Golden Boot is second in his thoughts to winning the Serie A title with Inter Milan.

The Inter striker is currently lying second in the division’s top scorers having scored 18 league goals so far this season, one less than frontrunner Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Belgian has been instrumental in the Nerazzurri title bid and despite Ronaldo’s exploits Juventus lie in third place, ten points behind leaders Inter, albeit with a game in hand.

And Lukaku, 27, admitted he was in good form, but declared his focus on ending Inter’s ten-year wait for a trophy, rather than winning individual awards like the Capocannoniere.

He told Sky Sport Italia: ‘I always think about winning. I am in a good moment of my career, but Inter are the only thing that matter.

‘We are improving, we are on top of the table, it’s a nice feeling, but we must continue.

‘We faced some defeats in these kind of games last season and we want to improve. I am really happy with the (Genoa) victory. Now we must focus on Parma, it’s not going to be an easy game.

‘I always want to improve, just like many other players. We are young and we have room for improvement. We want to win these games, it’s a good feeling.’

The 89-cap international scored for the third successive game in a comfortable 3-0 win over Genoa, and has not gone more than two matches without a goal all campaign.

Antonio Conte’s title hopefuls travel to Juventus in the penultimate game of the season on May 16 in what could prove a crucial clash in Inter’s attempt to dethrone Juventus.
