Was a draw a fair result?

The stats would say so, but that doesn’t take away any of the late controversy…

Burnley chief fumes

It’s fair to say NFL star JJ Watt, who became a minority investor in Burnley last year, isn’t happy.

An unhappy Kompany

A decision that will be debated long into the night

Controversial finish to the game

To be fair to Burnley you do often see those collisions given as fouls.

Opinion seems to be split though.

Do goalkeepers get protected too much? Or have the officials got this one right and could this set a new precedent for similar incidents?

I’m sure Vincent Kompany will have plenty to say…

Elation for Luton

Ross Barkley and Carlton Morris been speaking to TNT Sports for immediate reaction.

It’s a difficult place to come, but we dug in to the end and the big man got the goal. It’s a pivotal moment getting last minute goals and it’s brilliant. It will be great for us confidence wise. RB

When needs must put the two big fellas up front and we’ll cause carnage. We definitely deserved something, if not all three points from the game given our performance. I’ve seen a couple of those incidents and I’m just pleased we saw sense in this one. The big fella just outjumped him. CM

FULL TIME – Burnley 1-1 Luton

And that’s that! What a dramatic ending to the game!

That will feel like a win for Luton after Morris’ late equaliser which cancelled out Amdouni’s first half opener.

It’s a much better result for the Hatters than the hosts, who look gutted.

PGMOL have said it ‘was just a coming together of two players’ in explaining that decision.

Luton probably deserve a draw on the balance of play, but that doesn’t make it any easier for the Clarets to take.

Burnley 1-1 Luton

Could we have one last chance?

This is going to feel like a defeat for Burnley if it ends a draw, but they come forward again.

They work it well and Roberts crosses but Kaminski claims well. That could be that.

IT’S A GOAL! Burnley 1-1 Luton (MORRIS)

It is given!!!!

Kompany is fuming and what a huge moment that is. That could be crucial come the end of the season, but it is majorly controversial.

As the ball came in from Doughty, Trafford came for the ball again but was flattened after colliding with Adebayo.

But, I don’t think Adebayo barged into to him, rather he was standing his ground and it was a collision.

That won’t be the last we hear of that though. Burnley are pegged back after leading for so long.

Trafford was booked for his protests.

Cork is on for Ekdal in the meantime.

GOAL! Burnley 1-1 Luton (MORRIS)

Drama at the death!!!

This could be a huge moment, but there will be a check. Burnley and Kompany are fuming.

Doughty floats in a cross and Trafford comes out but he’s knocked over as he collides with Adebayo.

Morris then heads home behind him and wheels away, but is that a foul on the goalkeeper?

Or did Trafford run into Adebayo?

This is a long check…

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Luton attempt to build another attack and Chong plays it out to Doughty on the left.

But he’s offside again! That sums up Luton’s second half frustrations.

Trafford has done brilliantly claiming crosses over the past 20 or so minutes, but he’s yet to really be tested with shots on target since Burnley scored.

Five minutes of added time!

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Burnley are getting deeper and deeper, but Luton are struggling to break the lines.

The hosts are defending well, although it’s becoming increasingly desperate.

Morris then attempts the spectacular with a bicycle kick, but Brownhill sticks his head where it hurts and wins a free kick.

Sambi Lokonga is then replaced by Berry for Luton.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Two more changes for Burnley.

Bruun Larsen – who scored the winner in the reverse fixture – replaces Odobert, while Tresor comes on for goalscorer Amdouni.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

More frustration for Luton as Doughty is offside.

Roberts then takes a quick free kick and sends Odobert away.

He brings the ball all the way up the pitch and goes outside Osho before firing at goal.

Kaminski is equal to it though and parries for a corner, which the Hatters defend well.

Into the final 10 minutes.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

A well-worked move from Burnley.

Odobert floats a cross into the box and O’Shea heads it back acrsoss goal.

Foster is there and fires on the volley first time but Kaminski holds well.

The former Blackburn stopper then kicks the ball straight of play as he tries to launch a counter attack, much to the delight of the home supporters.

The introduction of Roberts has seen Burnley revert to a back five for the final stages of this game.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Substitutions for both sides.

Roberts replaces Gudmundsson for Burnley in a move that sees a defender replace a midfielder.

For Luton, Morris replaces Clark.

Meanwhile, a nice message of support from a young Burnley supporter is on show for Luton captain Tom Lockyer.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Luton are struggling to create many openings this half in the face of a resillient Burnley defence.

Ogbene still looks like there most dangerous outlet though, alongside Barkley, while Chong has slotted in on the left side of attack.

They shouldn’t lost hope though with the Hatters having scored 57 per cent of their Premier League goals after the 75th minute this season.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Trafford does well to claim another Doughty corner.

But the Burnley stopper banged his head on the ground as he landed and is receiving some treatment.

Both Kompany and Edwards use that as an opportunity to summon over their players for some words.

The hosts are keeping Luton at bay so far this half.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Rob Edwards makes his first substitute.

Chong replaces Townsend. It hasn’t quite been the latter’s night this evening.

Into the final 25 minutes…

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Odobert really is a talent.

Burnley now go forward and Amdouni plays in the young winger.

He cuts inside Ogbene and has an effort on goal. It deflects off Mengi and it’s going in, but Kaminski scrambles back across his goal to tip it out for a corner.

Ekdal’s header is then deflected and the Luton stopper does well again.

Still 1-0.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Luton keeper Kaminski is getting booed every time he touches the ball this half due to his previous employment at Burnley’s arch-rivals Blackburn.

There’s a great pace to this game though, with both sides trading attacks but lacking that all important quality.

Trafford then does well to claim Adebayo’s cross.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Luton now burst forward.

Clark has Townsend overlapping and the former Burnley trialist floats in a cross to the far post.

Ogbene doesn’t quite get the power on his header, but Trafford is still forced to tip the ball over for a corner.

It’s a busy six-yard box for Doughty to deliver into and Burnley defend well from two successive corners.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Brilliant football from Burnley. The ball comes out to Gudmundsson.

He lays it off to Cullen who hits a ball round the corner first time.

Vitinho is there in behind and cuts inside onto his left foot, before firing high and wide.

That’s two shots already for Burnley’s right back in this half.

Luton are yet to get going in the second period.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Almost a second for Burnley.

Foster plays it out to Odobert. The winger jinks inside a couple of defenders and lays it off to Foster.

The South African takes a touch and tries to find Amdouni, who is free about 10 yards out, but his pass is overhit and it goes out for a goal kick.

Fine margins.

Ogbene then creates an opening at the other end after another good ball from Barkley but he fires straight at Trafford.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

A bright start to the half for Burnley, with Amdouni dropping off to pick up the ball in a dangerous position.

The ball comes out to Vitinho, who fires straight at Kaminski.

No changes from either side for the second period.

Back underway

Luton get us going for a huge 45 minutes at the bottom of the Premier League.

Frustration for Luton

They had 60 per cent of possession in that half…

Table as it stands

This would be a huge three points for Burnley.

Still 45 minutes to go though and it’s been a pretty open game so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more goals.

It promises to be an intriguing second period.

HALF TIME – Burnley 1-0 Luton

And that’s that for the first 45 minutes.

Luton have dominated much of the play, but they are behind thanks to Zeki Amdouni’s strike in the 36th minute.

The Hatters enjoyed much of the possession during the early stages of the game and forced James Trafford into a couple of saves, but couldn’t make their advantage count.

Burnley improved and following some good work form Wilson Odobert, Amdouni tucked home, with official confirmation that it was his goal despite many – myself included – thinking it had hit Johann Berg Gudmundsson on its way in.

Rob Edwards’ side have it all to do in the second half.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Amdouni will be delighted. Official confirmation has just come through that it is in fact his goal.

That’s the Swiss forward’s fourth goal of the season.

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Luton have responded well to the goal and are enjoying a good period of pressure.

But, at the moment, Burnley are defending solidly and keeping them at bay without major alarm.

The Hatters will be regretting their inability to not build on their early dominance in the game.

Three minutes added on!

Burnley 1-0 Luton

Who are you giving the goal to?

I think it’s hit Gudmundsson before going over the line, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Relief for Burnley

Although I wouldn’t want to be the one to tell Amdouni if his goal has been taken away from him.

At least he’ll get the assist if that’s any consolation?

GOAL! Burnley 1-0 Luton (Amdouni)

Just as I was typing that it had been a better five minutes from Burnley and they’re ahead.

Foster drives the ball forward before feeding Odobert, who beats Mengi. He fires the ball into a brilliant area and Amdouni shoots at goal.

Kaminski saves it but it hits someone, I think, Gudmundsson and goes over the line.

Amdouni wheels away celebrating but he’ll be gutted if that’s been taken away from him.

We are waiting for official confirmation though so we’ll keep you updated.

First blood to the hosts!

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Better from the hosts.

After Foster wins another free kick, Burnley force a spell of pressure. The ball comes out to Odobert about 12 yards out but he completely scuffs his shot.

Gudmundsson then concedes a foul and Luton survive. That was quite a big chance for the young winger and he will be disappointed.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

This is one-way traffic.

Luton are all over Burnley and are cutting them open with ease.

Bell begins a marauding run from defence before feeding in Doughty. The Clarets just about deal with the wing back’s cross, but it turns out he was offside anyway.

Both Doughty and Ogbene are causing multiple problems with Clark and Townsend dropping more centrally behind Adebayo.

When Burnley do get the ball, the Hatters are swarming them and really not allowing the hosts any time.

It’s still level though, which will be Edwards’ only complaint.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Foster does well to win a free kick on the edge of the box after good work from Amdouni.

Gudmundsson takes it and it’s over the wall, but way over the bar.

That’s better from the hosts, but they are really on the backfoot.

Barkley and Lokonga – who have formed a good partnership over recent weeks – are helping the Hatters control this game, while Ogbene is causing Al Dakhil all sorts of problems on the right.

The visitors have had more than 60 per cent possession which is unprecedented for them this season.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Foster is down after he seemed to kick the bottom of Mengi’s studs in a worrying sign for Burnley.

However, he’s OK to continue after some treatment.

The Clarets need to get him involved more, with the home crowd already a bit restless following this poor start.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Another dangerous run from Ogbene causes more trouble for the Burnley defence.

The ball eventually comes out to Clarke, who is nudged over by Gudmundsson in the penalty area, but appeals are muted.

Meanwhile, Datro Fofana, who we revealed would be joining Burnley on loan, is in the stands at Turf Moor tonight.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Brilliant again from Barkley.

He plays another brilliant ball in behind to the dangerous Ogbene.

The wide man takes on Al Dakhil and fires at goal. It’s straight at Trafford but he still does well to force the ball away for a corner.

This is a good start from Luton and their travelling fans are in fine voice.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Good play from Luton again.

The in-form Barkley pings a delightful ball out to Ogbene. The wing back feeds it back to the midfielder at the edge of the box.

He shoots first time and Trafford is forced into a sprawling save over the bar.

The Burnley keeper attempts to come for the resulting corner and is nowhere near it but thankfully his side deal with the danger.

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Huge early chance for Burnley.

They’ve had most of the play so far and some lovely intricate football sees Gudmonsson through on goal.

But he fires straight at Kaminski – a great save but the winger has to do better there.

At the other end, Luton then break and Doughty’s delicious ball is just ahead of Adebayo and Burnley survive.

Two big chances – let’s hope that continues!

Burnley 0-0 Luton

A quiet start to the game as both sides look to bed themselves in.

For Luton, they’ve stuck to their 3-4-2-1 formation despite Kabore’s absence.

Ogbene is at right wing back with Clark tucking in as the left sided attacking midfielder on his first Premier League start.

For Burnley, Ekdal is at left back in place of Taylor, with Al Dakhil partnering O’Shea at the centre of defence in Beyer’s absence.

And we’re off

Burnley’s Lyle Foster gets us going.

A reminder this game was set to be played on Monday but had to be brought forward due to Luton’s FA Cup replay with Bolton next week.

Here we go…

Pitch-side interview

Luton’s Amari’i Bell has been speaking to TNT Sports ahead of kick off, highlighting the importance of tonight’s game.

An intriguing aspect to this clash is Andros Townsend was on trial with Burnley in the summer and all set to sign, until they pulled out of the deal at the last moment.

He went onto join Luton and has made a huge impact for the Hatters.

The players are out on the pitch and we’re about to get going.

Kick off almost here

The players have been through their warm-ups and we’re under 10 minutes away from getting underway.

It promises to be a cracking encounter as both teams attempt to push away from relegation trouble.

Stay with us for all the drama…

And Kompany’s thoughts…

The Belgian was bullish when also speaking to TNT Sports.

This is what he said:

I think this season has been a tough learning curve for sure. We’ve been in games. Every game has been something where at the end of the game we felt we could have got something out of it. These games (against Luton) are always, like finals a little bit. But for us to win today, I think you want to make sure that the lads embrace these type of games. I mean, what’s the point of having a career if you’re not going to have games with pressure.

The thoughts of Rob Edwards

The Luton boss has just been speaking to TNT Sports ahead of tonight’s game, while also reflecting on that clash with Burnley in October.

Here’s what he had to say:

They’re all big. We’re looking forward to it tonight. I mean, we had two really tough games against Burnley in the Championship and they won (the game) this season as well. I think both of us (me and Kompany) would say that our teams have learned a lot and we’ve improved in that time. I think that night was a really good performance from us. We got a couple of little bits wrong. But the second half, we were pretty dominant, and I liked this. But they got the win. I think we’ve moved on a lot from there. I think we’ve I think we’ve improved and I think we’ve evolved and become a team that is competitive in most games.

What happened the last time these sides met?

The clash was originally scheduled for the second gameweek of the season, but was delayed because Luton were working to ensure their ground was up to Premier League regulations.

The Hatters had picked up their first ever Premier League win at Everton in the previous game, but Burnley headed into the match still searching for their first top flight victory since promotion.

A dramatic game followed, but the Clarets did just that thanks to goals from Lyle Foster and Jacob Bruun Larsen either side of an Elijah Adebayo equaliser.

The Hatters will be out for revenge tonight but you can catch highlights of that first game below.

A tough place to go (or not)?

Turf Moor. The proverbial ‘tough place to go’ and long away trip Premier League clubs dread. Or is it?

That classic cliche seems to be losing its credibility in relation to Burnley, with Vincent Kompany’s side losing nine of their 10 home league games so far this season.

Not an ideal record if the Clarets have hopes of staying up.

Here’s that dismal record in full.

11/08 – Burnley 0-3 Man City

27/08 – Burnley 1-3 Aston Villa

02/09 – Burnley 2-5 Tottenham

23/09 – Burnley 0-1 Man United

07/10 – Burnley 1-4 Chelsea

04/11 – Burnley 0-2 Crystal Palace

25/11 – Burnley 1-2 West Ham

02/12 – Burnley 5-0 Sheffield United

16/12 – Burnley 0-2 Everton

26/12 – Burnley 0-2 Liverpool

10 goals scored and 24 conceded. Ouch!

Burnley look to add in attack

With both teams sitting in the relegation zone, they will be hoping to strengthen their squads this month.

One bit of transfer news that Mail Sport reported last night is how Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana is expected to complete a loan move to Burnley.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Union Berlin but scored just once in 12 Bundesliga apperances.

Vincent Kompany will be banking on the Ivory Coast striker helping his side become less wasteful in front of goal, with the Clarets netting just 20 goals so far this campaign.

The Premier League winter break

It feels an age since we had Premier League action on the agenda, with the FA Cup taking centre stage last week.

Tonight’s clash between Burnley and Luton is the start of the top flight’s winter break, with sides playing either this weekend or next, and having the opportunity to get in some well-deserved rest.

This has been slightly complicated by the FA Cup, with seven top flight sides – Wolves, Brentford, Luton, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Everton and Crystal Palace – facing a third round replay on either Tuesday or Wednesday, which will reduce their time off.

The five games across this weekend are as follows.

Friday 19:45 – Burnley vs Luton

Saturday 12:30 – Chelsea vs Fulham

Saturday 17:30 – Newcastle vs Man City

Sunday 14:00 – Everton vs Aston Villa

Sunday 16:30 – Man United vs Tottenham

AFCON and Asian Cup absentees

As both continental tournaments get underway this weekend, several Premier League sides will be missing key players over the next month.

However, Burnley are one of just three top flight sides – alongside Newcastle and Man City – not to lose a player to either tournament.

Meanwhile, Kabore is Luton’s only absentee, with Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu not making the final squad for DR Congo.

Kabore has shone for the Hatters since joining on loan from Man City in the summer and he will be a big miss at right wing back.

Luton TEAM NEWS

Luton meanwhile are without Issa Kabore, who is at AFCON with Burkina Faso.

Jacob Brown also drops out of the starting XI from their last league game against Chelsea, with the Hatters forward suspended.

Jordan Clark and Chiedozie Ogbene replace the pair.

Rob Edwards’ side beat Luton and Sheffield United, before narrowly losing to the Blues over the festive period so they should come into this clash with plenty of confidence.

Burnley TEAM NEWS

The big news for Burnley is Charlie Taylor doesn’t make it after being forced off with a shoulder problem during last Friday’s FA Cup tie with Tottenham.

However, Lyle Foster – who went off with a foot issue in the same game – IS fit to start in a major boost for the Clarets.

Elsewhere, Al-Dakhil, Ekdal and Cullen replace Beyer, Taylor and Berge from their league game against Aston Villa on December 30.

Kompany targeting three points

Burnley have certainly improved over recent league games and were unfortunate to lose 3-2 to Aston Villa last time out in the top flight.

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany retains full faith in his team despite their struggles and he will hope that belief filters through to his players tonight.

We’ll be getting team news from both sides imminently.

A relegation six-pointer

Tonight’s clash is a proverbial six-pointer at the bottom of the table.

Both teams have found life tricky since being promoted last season, although Luton have perhaps impressed more.

They currently sit four points clear of Burnley and a win for Rob Edwards’ side would take them out of the bottom three and ahead of Everton.

Meanwhile, the Clarets are desperate for a victory to close the gap on their relegation rivals, while winning games like this against fellow strugglers is imperative if they are going to have any chance of staying up.

Here’s a snapshot of the bottom of the Premier League table ahead of kick off.
