Gary Neville: ‘Forest won’t panic, they’ve been here before’

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Man United defender believes Forest – who sit 16th in the table – will stick with Steve Cooper.

‘I thought they were done last year when I watched them play against United in the Carabao cup semi final. I thought they were really poor thought they were struggling defensively.

‘Then from somewhere, they just started to get results from nowhere, mainly here.

‘So I don’t think they’ll panic, He’s got the backing of the crowd and the fact they’ve been here before does help.’

‘I’m not putting on a brave face or hiding away from it’

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has said he is not shying away from talk over his future as the club’s manager.

Asked about his future, he told Sky Sports: ‘I don’t listen to it, I get asked by all your colleagues and wherever and I’m not putting on a sort of brave face or hiding away from it.

‘I’ve sort of learned quickly to hide it away. To be honest, I think as a manager, you’re always under pressure. And probably the most pressure I felt in this job is when I first took over because of where the club was.

‘It’s a relentless and ruthless League. There’s no doubt about that. And for me, you’ve always got to look forward, stay true to yourself and believe that you can, you can do well in the next game.’

How important will this man be tonight?

After being sold for £47.5m to Tottenham, Brennan Johnson will face his old side tonight.

The Welsh international looks to be a perfect fit for Postecoglou’s pacy style of attack.

TEAM NEWS – Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou names an unchanged XI as well. It remains to be seen whether Son or Richarlison will play centrally.

Meanwhile, Kulusevski fills that number 10 role in the absence of James Maddison.

TEAM NEWS – Nottingham Forest

There is no Scott McKenna or Joe Worrall in the Forest matchday squad despite that injury to Felipe.

Steve Cooper names an unchanged XI.

Something to keep an eye out for…

With Nottingham Forest defender Felipe set to miss tonight’s clash against Spurs, Steve Cooper could be forced to recall either Scott McKenna or Joe Worrall to the starting line-up despite them being banished from first team training earlier this month.

While no official reason has been given for why they’ve been asked to train away from the senior squad, it’s not belived to be related to behavioural issues.

Is Steve Cooper facing the axe?

The Nottingham Forest boss remains under scrutiny after poor run of form, which included a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Fulham on December 6.

Cooper, meanwhile, remains adamant that he doesn’t need ‘any reassurances’ over his future with Forest.

Tonight’s result could certainly have a big influence on the 44-year-old’s future at the club.

Tottenham eye January move for £68m Brazilian wonderkid

After losing Micky van de Ven to injury, Ange will be keen on bringing in a new centre-back to fill the gaping void.

And he may well have found his answer with 22-year-old Benfica defender Morato…

Destiny Udogie signs new deal

Surely on the Spurs manager’s Christmas list was Destiny Udogie signing a new contract with the club.

The Italian youngster has been a revelation so far for the Australian and his new deal will keep him at Tottenham until the summer of 2030.

But what else might Postecoglou be hoping for?

Ange Postecoglou’s Christmas wish list…

Asked by a reporter whether he was planning on making any January signings, the Spurs manager kept things light as he revealed he’s written his letter to Santa.

With a worrying injury list at the moment, which includes the likes of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, Postecoglou may well be hoping Santa answers his wishes…

Are Spurs ready to kick on?

Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Newcastle last weekend was massive for Postecoglou’s side to stop their recent poor run of form.

Now sitting fifth in the Premier League table, they have the opportunity to draw level on points with Manchester City with a win tonight.

With games against Everton, Brighton and Bournemouth next – could this be the spark Spurs need to revitalise their season?

Is Richarlison ready to step up?

The former Everton forward has been a mixed bag at Spurs so far after making his £60m move to the Lilywhites.

His manager Ange Postecoglou certainly thinks he is mentally and physically ready to provide for Tottenham – and he will be needed when they potentially lose Heung-min Son for six weeks to the Asian Cup.

Son is expected to join the South Korea camp at the start of January with the tournament in Qatar running until February 10.

Richarlison bagged a brace in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Newcastle and, remarkably, they were the first goals he has scored with his feet since joining Spurs.

Good evening to you all!

Welcome to Mail Sport’s coverage of Nottingham Forest against Tottenham in the Premier League.
