Scott Morrison doubles capacity of Howard Springs quarantine camp

Scott Morrison will expand the Howard Springs quarantine camp, giving hope to stranded Aussies who are desperate to come home.

The Northern Territory facility, which currently takes 850 arrivals a fortnight, will take some 2,000 travellers every two weeks by May.

Mr Morrison said the expansion cannot happen immediately because more workers need to be hired and there are ‘wet season’ issues.

Some 40,000 Australians overseas have registered a desire to come home but have been unable to get a flight due to a cap on arrivals imposed by the federal government.
