Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has shared a new career update as she revealed that her “goal” is to return to the BBC hit dance show later this year.

The professional dancer was forced to sit out on last year’s series after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Earlier this year the dancer shared how doctors had found “no evidence of disease”.

Announcing the news she took to Instagram and told her followers: “My biggest accomplishment yet! I won’t be getting the all-clear for 5 years especially with a hormone fed cancer. But it was all worth it. Words I never thought I’d hear at one point.”

She added at the time: “So grateful for all the care I received and continue to have. To my family and friends who supported me unconditionally and to you guys! Thank you!”.

Amy appeared on ITV’s Lorraine this morning and gave an update on her recovery, Wales Online reports. Chatting to host Christine Lampard from Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Amy said: “I’ve been given another shot at life, and I’m so grateful for that. I really am.”

Christine said: “We’ve missed you on Strictly, and I’m sure being back there on the dance floor, you just have that burning desire to get back out there. Is that the hope, Amy?”

Amy replied: “Oh absolutely. I missed being on Strictly so much last year. I’ve missed dancing. I’ve been working with my physio team who are incredible because I haven’t danced in a year. That is the goal for me to get back with my Strictly family, so fingers crossed.”

During her cancer journey Amy has continued to make appearances on television. Her BBC Wales series Dare to Dance recently returned to screens for its second series and is currently available in its entirety on BBC iPlayer.
