Liverpool couldn’t avoid a shock defeat in Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby against Everton, who claimed victory against their rivals at Goodison Park for the first time since October 2010.

Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool in the summer, making this his last derby. He says he won’t miss them, but he’ll be even keener to forget this abomination of a performance.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin goals were the difference, with Liverpool just a shadow of themselves as their Premier League title challenge all but went up in smoke.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 6/10

Trent Alexander-Arnold has played a lot better than this in the past and undoubtedly will again, but he was still Liverpool’s best creative outlet on an otherwise really poor night. It was arguably his teammates who let him down with a lack of quality to match his.

Honourable mention

Jarell Quansah: 6/10

The 21-year-old centre-back came on for the final 27 minutes plus stoppage time and was a notable upgrade on Ibrahima Konate, who had been utterly bullied by the relentless Calvert-Lewin.

Darwin Nunez: 2/10

Despite being bang in form earlier in the season, frustrations with Darwin Nunez and his profligacy at the business end of the campaign are rising. This is when it really matters and he’s not taking chances when they come. He squandered a big chance in the first half and was otherwise not that much of a threat to Everton’s in-control centre-backs.

Dishonourable mention

Mohamed Salah: 3/10

By the end of the derby, Liverpool fans on social media were openly discussing whether Mohamed Salah is officially past it. What’s for sure is that the Egyptian superstar hasn’t been the same since a muscle injury suffered while on international duty in January and he was close to anonymous here.
