The series follows a group of Brits who emigrate to Australia in the 1950s in search of a better life only to discover things are more difficult than they thought once they arrive.

Michelle will reprise her role as Kate Thorne in the hit show.

Ten Pound Poms follows nurse Thorne and Roberts family members Terry and Annie as they struggle to adapt to life as immigrants in Australia.

The first series – produced by Eleven and co-produced by Stan and the BBC – was loved by fans, prompting the immediate development of series two.

A synopsis for the forthcoming series reads: ‘After a challenging first year in Australia, the new series will follow nurse Kate Thorne (Michelle Keegan) and the Roberts family (led by Faye Marsay and Warren Brown) into 1957 on their adventure down under, as they are determined to make this new country everything they hoped it would be for a fresh start.

‘Will Kate, Terry and Annie finally get a slice of the Australian dream they were promised?’

In series two new characters the Skinner family from Ireland and the unscrupulous land-lord Benny Bates will be introduced to viewers.

After the second series was confirmed, show writer, creator and executive producer Danny Brocklehurst said: ‘The positive viewer response to Ten Pound Poms was a true delight.

‘We tapped into a little-known part of our recent history and told stories which reflected the realities of the real Poms that made the trip.

‘I couldn’t be more thrilled to be teaming again with the BBC, Stan and Eleven to continue our characters’ adventure down under.’

Michelle recently broke her silence on quitting the UK for Hollywood.

In January, it was reported that the Brassic actress could be set for a move to Los Angeles following the success of her Netflix series Fool Me Once.

Michelle, who has been married to Mark since 2015, already has some experience of LA life because her husband lived there for a few years while working for Extra.

In an interview with The Guardian, Michelle revealed that she would consider re-locating if the perfect role came along.

She said: ‘I went to America when Mark was out there. Didn’t like it. But let’s see. If a job comes up… I guess?…

‘I’ve never thought beyond what I’m doing right at that moment.

‘And I think that’s how I live now as well. I don’t think in terms of goals.

‘I live in the moment.’

Michelle starred as Maya Stern in Fool Me Once, alongside Joanna Lumley in the series adaptation of Harlan Coben’s novel, which quickly shot to the top of Netflix charts worldwide.

Amid her huge success, it has been claimed that the logical next step for Michelle would be a move to LA amid reports that she has been inundated with Hollywood offers.

Industry expert Nick Ede told how Fool Me Once could propel the former Coronation Street actress into becoming a ‘major’ global movie star.

He told OK! Magazine : ‘It’s really given Michelle a platform to make her a major star.

‘All eyes are on her at the moment because Netflix is watched by millions of people globally and her series is number one here and in the US.

‘She looks every inch the Hollywood leading lady and she has star quality,’ he continued.

‘As a Hollywood producer or director, you want somebody who’s the whole package – and that’s Michelle.’
