Aston Villa have reportedly extended the contract of boss Unai Emery until 2027 amid significant interest in the Spaniard from clubs including Bayern Munich.

The Spaniard, 52, has had a stunning impact at Villa Park since joining from Villarreal in October 2022.

After taking over a side who were just one point clear of the relegation zone, Emery guided them to a seventh place finish and qualification for the Europa Conference League.

Villa picked up 49 points from 25 games from his appointment to the end of last season, a record that was only bettered by Man City, Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool.

This time around, Villa are on course to qualify for the Champions League as they sit six points clear of Tottenham with four matches to play – although Spurs do have two games in hand – while they have reached the Europa Conference League semi-finals.

His impressive body of work had seen him linked to several jobs across Europe, including Bayern Munich, but, according to The Athletic, Emery has decided to commit his future to Villa in what is a major boost for the club.

This is a blow for Bayern, who have already seen key targets Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann rule themselves out of the running after committing their futures to Bayer Leverkusen and Germany, respectively.

Sky Germany reported the German giants are now set to turn to former Man United interim boss Ralf Rangnick, despite his struggles at Old Trafford.

The report claims Bayern have already held negotiations with Rangnick, who has impressed since taking over as Austria boss in 2022.

Speaking on Sunday after Villa’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth, Emery had seemingly rubbished links to Bavaria when questioned as he said: ‘I am focused here, 100 per cent.’

The Athletic report goes onto state that Villa are hoping to discuss an even longer contract with Emery in the summer, as owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens – who have invested significant sums of money in recent years – believe the Spaniard can become their own version of Sir Alex Ferguson at United.

Emery has a stunning record of 44 wins from 77 games in charge of the Villans.

He has helped to develop a hugely impressive team and improve multiple players, including the likes of Ollie Watkins, with the former Brentford star adding 38 goal contributions in 47 games in all competitions this season.

Emery, who replaced Steven Gerrard, has won four Europa League titles in his career, while he lifted seven trophies during two years at PSG.

The 52-year-old has also managed the likes of Valencia, Sevilla, Spartak Moscow, Almeria, Lorca Deportiva and Arsenal.

Villa return to league action when they take on Chelsea on Sunday, while they will face Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League semi-finals next month as Emery hopes to guide the club to their first trophy since 1996.
